{Locked to Wardens, as well as friends and acquaintances among the inmates. Basically, if he doesn't hate you, you're on this filter.}

Fellow shipmates, I should like to know. What, exactly, {oh Lord, please don't let this be a vulgarity} is a blogger?

{If Watson is being slighted, he wants to know.}

a little fabulous today, nothing amiss, communication failure

One does not like to assume, however added to the context it was used in I do not relish having spoken it. A variation of blackguard would certainly be a preferable one.

{As opposed to...well.}

It was spoken of my...companion and biographer, one who has been terribly slandered of late.

It ain't an insult. Well, it might be, to some folks.

A blogger's like... someone who writes their opinions all over the internet, I guess.

Like an op-ed in the paper, except they can write whatever they want, whenever they want. And it's usually 'bout a specific subject. Like some folks'll do it about politics, other folks'll do it 'bout food or music or films.

How was such an...ill-sounding term decided upon?

...I dunno. These internet terms just seem to turn up out of fucking nowhere.

Forgive me, 'internet'? {While we're here, and all.}

A blogger is someone who posts their opinions, life stories, creative efforts, and frankly whatever they wish on the Internet. And that is much like this network, but it extends all over the world.

Jim reads fast, I see.

[ He quirks his lips up. ]

I am curious, do you know how such an ill-sounding word came about?

{"Writer" is hardly the first thing that comes to mind when one hears it.}

Derived from a 'blog', which is in turn a shortened form of 'weblog'. Web derived from 'World Wide Web', another name for the Internet.

[ Ask him about academic/factual things, then he will talk. ]

{All this vocabulary, for so little merit.} It is not a term befitting of Watson.

{He still feels rather insulted by it.}

It does sound insulting. But perhaps it's one of those insults which are used as endearments. Like when someone is called: "Me old mucker", or, I don't know, buggerlugs?

A noble thought, Constable, however I can be assured that its use was not that of affection, even if it were not an insult. And-dear Lord, who would address someone by such a term? {How can you even say that?}

Um. Well. Our Inspector...

...is...

...from Yorkshire.

[That sort of explains it.]

{It completely explains it, actually. Holmes sighs and half rolls his eyes.} The north is ever innovative with its phrases.
