Return of the ranking table

Blah blah blah blah concept teasers, more importantly, I have learned yet another method to arbitrarily justify subjective rankings with supposedly objective mechanisms!

Behold, the prioritization matrix.

Well, there goes my time for the next couple of hours or so.
Thanks a lot. :(

But, seriously, awesome stuff. :D

Lol, I saw your comment on my old ranking method and thought, "oh damn, he's actually going to go through all of that!?" And then I realized that through the magic of Google Docs I could set it up to make input much easier and the calculations automatic. Hmmm, I wonder if I can figure out the discrepancies between the old method and the prioritization matrix, versus my personal subjective rankings...I feel like the prioritization matrix does reward ties between low-seeds kind of skews the results, as well as not quite accounting for sequential defeats. (Like if A is 2x B, and B is 2x C, shouldn't A have some sort of boost in its match against C, since technically it should be A 4x C?)

I was using your old one just the other day! :o
Much time was spent with it ever since I made the spreadsheet; the only thing I couldn't get to calculate automatically was Weight. I probably could have done it if I had thought hard enough, but it was easier to just manually input the weight. >_>

Hmm, that is true.
I suppose you could throw in a shitload of if statements in there, or something.
I'mma play around with it right now and compare it with my old stuff and my personal subjective rankings...

Ooh, then instead of just a 1-2-3-4-etc weighting, how about make a normalized weight? It would better reflect the magnitude between each person's scores.

Huh, automated scoring for the full wins and tentative wins is easy with a [vertical score = 3- input horizontal score] statement, but then I was awarding 1 point to each tie. How to differentiate that...Or were you just manually inputting the scores yourself?

It's just a way to definitively figure out who you SHOULD bias, but probably don't. XD
Plus it made me realize that I really really like Yuri's voice. XD And apparently admire Taeyeon a lot more than I know. I blame her being so magnificent in the concerts.

The bitch ranking is a lot simpler, as there's only "one" step of input involved, but I included the explanation for the long form for anyone curious as to the exact mechanism. Scientific repeatability and all that. :P

My ranking. http://i.imgur.com/5IzT5.png

Fascinating! That was fun.
This made me realize how well-rounded Yuri is. She did well in every single category and made a big jump up from what she's at in my bias list. It also made me realize that I don't really have much justification for Yoona being so high in my list, considering my top 3 criteria (vocal expression, humour, personality). But, to be fair, I don't think I've watched enough SNSD videos to give a good assessment on subjective things like humour and personality. Anyway.

It's pretty accurate, overall! :o
Differences from my personal bias list:

TY. 3 -> 3
JS. 4 -> 5
SN. 2 -> 1
TF. 1 -> 2
HY. 8 -> 7
YR. 7 -> 4
SY. 6 -> 6
YA. 5 -> 8
SH. 9 -> 9

Oh, slightly related, have you ever come upon my Member Ranking Thread on SSF? It might be of interest for you, maybe.

Would you mind posting a cap of your criterion ranking as well? I'm curious as to what people value in their idols, too.

This made me realize how well-rounded Yuri is.

I know right! Even GGTS way back when noticed this, describing her as having "undeniable appeal!"

My ranking turned out completely contrary to my subjective list. XD I think I didn't weigh X-factor and Personality enough. Sooyoung and Sunny(my biases, with Yoona in 3rd) didn't have that high of Funny scores because most of what I love about them are their badassness, which isn't necessarily funny as awesome.

I only go to SSF to read fanfic. But ooh, that is a fascinating thread to compare SSF/International member tendencies versus the Korean home fanbase. (Which seems to be that Yoona and Seohyun aren't as popular overseas as Yuri.) Looking back at my ranking now, it's no wonder that Taeyeon is the clear winner across the board, especially since she hasn't had to deal with the Yuri DilemmaTMHas your thread really been controversial ( ... )

If only I actually did anything on SSF we could probably come up with even more. XD

Shit, if Geop sets up another ranking thread, but for specific idol skill criteria (in theory they could figure just submit the individual rankings from the spreadsheet), then think of all the glorious graphs I could make from that data! For once we could figure out whether or not the majority of people think Yuri is as good as or better than Hyo at dancing, or who prefers Tiffany's singing to Jessica's.

Oh, well, why don't one of you guys make it! D:!
You should make it and receive all the praise from the occasional statistical junkie on ssf when you release your graphs! >:D

I can still make changes to the first post if it's yours, anyway, if you're too lazy to update it yourself. :p
