So I don't know FOR SURE that I got the position yet. The HR person had been really unclear and I thought she'd basically said they were offering the position pending paperwork. My brain was really muddy at the time though so I'm sure I misunderstood her. My mgr basically said today they are waiting for consensus. One of the folks who interviewed ( Read more... )

Thank you!! I blame you for getting me addicted to Perl ;) Although long term my mgr will want me to get into Ruby on Rails (not sure how I feel about this but it will be an interesting adventure). Postgresql is pretty cool, I've primarily got experience with MySQL and I'm just really impressed so far. In fact I was just reading about partitioning tables which is freakin' genius. With MySQL I would set up a second table for "x" called "x_archive" and set up an automation to move records past a certain age to x_archive. This was for things that can get big really quickly that folks might search on so someone pounding on table x with a huge query didn't ruin it for everyone else. Anyways I'm finding all kinds of little nuggets like that :) I think MySQL just has better marketing or something.
