I leave for school tomorrow. Technically, I should be packing right now (OH GOD OH GOD WHY AM I DOING THIS ALL SO LATE???!!?), but I wanted my last journal entry of the summer to properly reflect how I've spent my break. I really don't understand the V hate either. From what I've read people's problems seem to be a) the bad special effects at the end b) the fact that it has such a lofty premise and then it just turns out to be another alien and c) it was Bill Shatner's pet project and people like to mock him. As far as I'm concerned I can ignore c) and overlook a). (It's Trek for gooness sake). Yeah, I'd say the biggest factor seems to be the fact that people love to hate on William Shatner as much as possible. But you know, I think it's interesting that the one film that he directed is the one that seems to have the best balance between the characters, without being focused primarily on Kirk and Spock. You'd think it would be the perfect opportunity to let your ego run wild, but it turned out to be quite the opposite.
The prison scene is definitely my favourite part of VI. The rest of it was okay, but not something that I really feel the need to watch multiple times.
Thanks for the recommendation! I'll add it to my reading list, assuming that I stay motivated to read on my own time once I have to start reading for class. (Yes, I am that lazy!)

The passers-by story never fails to make me laugh! Also the fact that Spock was supposed to remain dignified on the edge of the ship when it was in the sea, but Bill dragged Leonard Nimoy in!
