Happy New Years all! Time for another refection entry. 2006 was probably the most wasteful year of my life. Well, that's debatable, I guess. While I did find things to fill my time and keep productive with all sorts of personal projects, I didn't further my life any. By that I mean that I went to college to be in a position to get a great job but I remained unemployed throughout 2006. I've magically managed to coast all this time on the money I saved while working at CCA in 2005 by being anally frugal and never buying any fun things for myself. Living at home with my folks helps too, obviously. But I'm beginning to grow bored with my life and I really could use some kind of change. 2007 had better be that year or else it'll prove I'm of no professional value to anyone.
2006 didn't really see much activity.
In January, I got smashed into by a tow truck and it took nearly 6 months to get the
insurance settlement from those slow-pokes.
In February, I published a DVD video slideshow of my 2005 road trip as well as a new version of my personal website,
http://www.adamrose.name.
In April, I finally ceased production on my nearly decade old pet project,
Beyond Aurora, which would have been a computer game. No one had been working on it for years anyway, so I just made its death official.
In August, I rode with my brother, Ryan, to Minnesota as he going back to attend Fall term at college. I spent two weeks goofing with him and his buddies before
flying to Vegas to celebrate my sister's 30th in style.
In September, we finished the nearly year-long renovation of my family's upstairs living room into a full-featured movie theater room complete with surround-sound speakers and a 120" projection screen. Also,
I signed up for unemployment after having been unemployed for 12 full months. In November,
I failed at writing a novel in 30 days and
didn't finish my movie for On The Lot before the December 1st deadline (Which ended up being thankfully pushed back to mid-February 2007). Finally, in December, I had a grand
Christmas of giving but my spirits were low with my
Geo breaking down.
No one knows how badly I wish a highlight of 2006 would have been that I got a job, moved out and found a life.
Yay! It's time for arbitrary resolutions!
Last year, Just like in
2005, I review some of what I tried to spend this last year accomplishing. One year ago today, I resolved to become more organized, finish projects and be more creative. I'd say I've succeeded. The clutter that was omnipresent last year is gone and my organization is efficient and zen. As for imagination, I did try to write that novel and I will have a movie for On The Lot.
1) I resolve, in 2007, to treat myself more often. I don't really ever buy things for myself or really treat myself to some of the good things in life that I can afford. This doesn't necessarily mean spending more money, it just means not being afraid to do more fun things.
2) I resolve, in 2007, to be more outgoing. Basically, I need more friends and to cherish the ones I have.
3) I resolve, in 2007, to change an aspect of my behavior for the better. Lord knows I have some bad habits as well as bad style. Something could benefit from some change.
I had goals for 2006 of getting a job, moving out and becoming financially independent. None of that happened, so it'll become my goals of 2007 with a new change.
My first goal of 2007 is to get a REAL job.
My second goal of 2007 is to get a new car. That's a NEW car.
My third goal of 2007 is to move out of the family home.
So here's to 2007! May it not suck.
