LJ code-geekage help! Agh!

Um... yeah? How do I do the thing of making just one post visible on my friends-only LJ, backdated or something, the "comment to be added" thing? And I assume it'd be OK to insert the FRIENDS ONLY (zomg) banner into that post, right? Like alicamel and others have on the top of their journal and stuff. Um, help ( Read more... )

geek, help?

Can't help with your problem I'm afraid, but I must congratulate you on the look of that journal. It's very elegant indeed.

Well, that was very helpful.. [/sarcasm]

The layout wasn't designed by me, but someone else on LJ, and I congratulate THEM on making such a stylish layout...

As far as I know -- I may be wrong -- getting the one post to show up is a long process, involving setting that one post to Public, then setting every other post to Friends-Only or Private.

Yeah, I gathered that already... but thankfully I just created the journal *today*, so... not so time-consuming, so far!:)

And yeah--I went to the Presentation and all that stuff, but gah, don't wanna give up my pretty layout:(. It's not easy to get that stuff done in the style I've chosen. PERKELE!

And since lagopus isn't a paid account, I can't even customise it to the full. AARGH. *repeated headdesk*

Sorry, I can't help much. I've never put up a banner on my LJ. When I tried an image, it tiled as it did for you and I didn't like it. I think they have to be big to not tile, but personally I find them distracting and often slow to load. Anyway, I had a look around and I think you need to use S1, then customise it. You can put HTML into the section of either all pages by using the GLOBAL_HEAD variable, or specific ones (see here). I guess a simple centered image would do it, but maybe you could ask someone who has a banner? alinewrites has one. I do suspect you need a paid account though. Perhaps you could sell the community to someone with a $15 discount (I think that's what it costs to change the name) then put the money into this new one?

I'm sooo tired (I think my sister does that to me). :-( I'm off to bed now.

Thanks for the tip. The LJ is a paid one now thanks to a donation from a friend, yay:).
