I wouldn't say that the music impresses me as being modern, just in the sense that it's subtle enough that my brain doesn't automatically associate a time with it? It's very atmosphere inducing so yeah, I think it works really well, and the knife sounds definitely add a suitable edge.

So there are two layers to it--in one sense, it's very historically accurate, but with a modern sexual sensibility to it, the same way I always have that two-layered thing of straddling both the world of the traditional female romantic/erotic writing and that of male-oriented porn imagery in my fics. So in that sense, the music felt oddly fitting, because I'm also not going to pretend that I'm a writer from the 40s or something. I don't know if that makes sense? But that's what I was thinking about, anyway
