So maybe it's time to go to bed if, when you're trying to make Finnish subs for a film, you translate "you were the first person to ever bring me flowers" as "olitte ensimmäinen joka koskaan toi minulle kullia" (="cock") instead of "kukkia" (="flowers"). Even if the typo is actually accurate as well ( Read more... )

subtitles, translation, a woman's face, conrad veidt

He does bring her her first cock action, though! So maybe I should just leave that in and see if my mum notices. I don't even notice the typos when I check the subs against the film because there's

In the olden days it was rugged, manly men sitting down at the feasting table after a successful hunt shouting 'Bring me wenches!'

Now it's women sitting in front of the Intarwebz after a gif hunt shouting 'Bring me cock!'

Plus ca change ;)

IDK, I feel quite old-fashioned for screaming at the screen whenever he's on, tearing at my bosoms and going "TAKE ME NOW!"...

Hm, do you know what they said in the Swedish original? Because I have the same problem when I read that sub, since it appears to be in Swedish... I 'read' it as "Skål, för satan!"

I haven't seen more than bits and pieces of the Swedish original and kind of don't want to since the actors are so insanely different (I'm still trying to compute how they could get the saintly Bergman and the uberbitter Crawford to ever play the same woman). But you were the one who brought up the "skål, ta mig fan" thing.

Anyway, is he making a toast to the devil, or raising a glass to her, calling her a devil?

It reminds me of Sheriff Bart's "Bitte, baby" from Blazing Saddles, for some reason.

Where is this one available online, if I could ask?

If you mean A Woman's Face, it can be found here, alongside a big bunch of other Connie films. It's probably his best sound movie acting performance and a great film in general, so well worth watching.
