Fiiiiiic

-My current Jaffar/Princess fic has been satisfying to write, although tricky, because I've actually got an emotional plot going on. I am not good at moving people from place A to place B! But getting them together required a lot of work this time. It's going to be longer than Of Roses Unfurling, that's for sure, and I'm kind of frightening myself ( Read more... )

It sounds like it's going to be fantastic. I don't normally like reading lengthy stories on a computer screen rather than on the printed page (I sometimes feel like I'm the only person in the world who hasn't yet bought a Kindle), but I shall have to make an exception for this.

I don't know if it's going to be good as it isn't mostly sex like just about all the other fics I've ever written, so I will have to see how it goes. I realised that if I wanted to write a scenario where the whole Princess/Ahmad thing turns out to be a silly fairytale illusion of two young people and that it doesn't work out, she'd get terribly depressed. So now, half the fic is about recovery from depression and it gets really sad and angsty at times. I have no idea if I'm handling it well at all and if her recovery seems too easy, but anyway. At least I'm getting to the happier parts now and they can be loving and sweet and indulge in some wonderful, romantic and raunchy sex. *happysigh*

And I'm glad I will have one reader at least:) It's a bit tricky to write in fandoms that are 70 years old!

I'll certainly give it a read. I really enjoyed your previous fic in that universe and the mention of a character recovering from depression sounds very much like a subject close to my heart. So yes, you'll at least have me reading it. :)

Eeee:) I just need to figure out if I'm getting the thing right. It keeps skipping forwards a few months at a time during her recovery time, so I don't know how wobbly the process of her healing might be. It's so weird because a lot of it is emotional stuff as of now and it'll be a while before it gets to the sex, which I'm good at writing! And I know I'll have to go back and roundout some of the prose to make it flow better, so it'll probably be even longer than it is now. It's funny writing longer stuff because I can't be as poetic and as intense when I do that--the amount of prose to hone is simply too overwhelming. And considering I can hone a 1000-word fic for over a week just to get the phrases right, trying to fully prettify a novella-length thing would just make my brain implode. So I apologise in advance if the prose isn't as poetic as usual!

Ha ha, I remember that about 1001 Nights. You're right, he's earned a cry because he's pretty hard done by. The caliph is all "I know we're best friends, but I'm an unreasonable dick, so go do something literally impossible in three days or I'll kill you," and then Jafar goes off to lie face down on the ground like a reaction gif and moan WHY MEEEEEEE?

YES! YES! That's exactly how it is! There are so many moments like that in the 1001 Nights. And Harun Al-Rashid did turn into an unreasonable dick like that at one point, so I love the historical accuracy there. He just had so much fail after he'd become Caliph, had huge military victories, helped install libraries and make Baghdad an awesome city and... then he just went nuts and pampered his children into complete twats and went and killed all his best viziers, including Ja'far. Dude was an idiot; I wonder if someone tried to poison him and his brain melted, like with some of the mad Roman emperors. And it's a shame, because Ja'far really was an awesome guy--apparently he was the smartest of his family of viziers but he also was the one who drank and partied the most and shagged around the most and Harun blamed him for turning one of his sons gay, and finally had Ja'far beheaded for shagging his (Harun's) sister. That whole period was so fascinating and so nuts, so I'm not at all surprised stories of those guys lived on in folktales ( ... )
