Yeah, I agree. THere was something weird about the end. I'm still all, "WHAT THE FUCK IS GOING ON?" but it still could've been better.

It's probably in Phil Glenister's contract that he gets to do a lot of yelling, though, so they were stuck with that ending.

If there was just a quick flash of him on a tv screen or something, I'd be vaguely nauseated, because that's the sort of shit they did with Rose on Doctor Who.

Gene Hunt >>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> Rose Tyler

Guv>Rose, always. I can't not find Guv!Yelling silly, probably because it's always been comedic in the series. If the Guv gets shouty, that's mostly been something we ought to either laugh at or roll our eyes at, so I'm not sure if it works as a horror element per se. Maybe if they hadn't tried to repeat the shouting but had focused more on the Guv being anxious and less Alex flailing and looking a bit silly... imagine if LoM had ended with Sam running around flapping his arms and the Guv yelling "TYLER"? It would've been comedic! (Except with more Simmtears, I bet.) I think "Alex wakes up in the present but is not rid of the Guv yet" isn't a bad idea at all, but it needed a slightly sort of different direction and mood to it, and it's the sort of thing that'd require a bit more development.

I kind of agree with you about the ending. I think they were trying to go for the "DUN, DUN, DUN" effect, but when you've been conditioned to expect that Gene yelling his head off is comedic, it throws it off-kilter a bit. Although, I can be a sucker for speculating, so it's kind of awesome for that sort of thing.

I've also come to the conclusion that Shaz pwns all. She can come and save me with a gun in her hand and a wedding dress on anyday...

Shaz is love. But yeah, after ep 7, I expected an emotional oomph about as big as that in ep 8, you know? The episode was good in general (I am still fucking *dying* over the fried cock because that was *perfect*), and I was getting wibbly when Alex told the Guv the truth about herself, and... gah. But the ending felt a bit rushed. There was nothing wrong with the general ideas there, really, and I love the idea that Alex doesn't know if even the present day is real. The ideas are, in fact, really good. It's just the execution that was a bit wobbly and farcical. It wasn't as bad as the Epic Guv Speech last year (god, that made me wince), although the emotional impact with the car crash and the Guv carrying baby Alex to safety was better ( ... )

Agree with you completely and totally about the ending. I was laughing my ass off in the pcbang, causing all the small Korean geekboys to look at me funnier than usual. I just - wow, that was cheesy. Phil's rantyface, Alex's hilarious panicked running. I was expecting the nurse to break out in Phil's voice or something.

It was like some old comedy. Chick runs around and flails, man yells. Hilarity ensues. I half expected the Benny Hill theme, seriously. I'm glad I wasn't the only one who thought it was more loltastic and facepalmy rather than "oh god, this gives me the creeps"...
