I would be marginally less repulsed by the idea of He's Just not That Into You if that had been the English title. It sounds less like a vapid S&tC character and more like a bug-eyed nutter and would thus be much more fun. Especially if the bug-eyed nutter was only visible to the main character. And then ate her.

He's Just Not That Into You was called (I think; I didn't go and see it) Dumpa honom in Swedish ("Dump him"). Amazingly succinct and to the point, for a Swedish title.

Ha! Usually yours aren't as bad as ours, though. We get double subs in theatres (both Finnish and Swedish at the same time), including the titles, and usually the Swedish title is much more sensible and a straightforward translation.

These days, they leave a lot of the movie titles untranslated. Let's see: Currently showing in theatres here are films like 17 Again, Monsters vs. Aliens, Boat That Rocked, Dragonball Evolution, Fast & Furious, Race to Witch Mountain, Slumdog Millionaire, Sunshine Cleaning and Watchmen. The only titles showing here in my town that have been translated are En shopaholics bekännelser (Confessions of a Shopaholic) and Marley och jag (Marley & Me). There is even a Swedish film showing that has a title in English (Kenny Begins) -- go figure.

This tendency is even beginning to spill over into book titles. Which can be confusing when you are ordering books online and are trying to figure out which edition is the original and which is the translation...
