Sweeney Todd

Now I have seen it! Liked it muchly. Ahhh. No more spoiler-dodging. *sighs with relief*

Of course, I'm a sad fuck and kept imagining "Hmm, Mister Master in Yana clothes brandishing a cutthroat razor, putting one gently to Ten's stubbled throat..."

...yes. Am predictable.

I LOVE YOU. Thank you. And oh gods, your icon... haven't watched my Sleepy Hollow DVD in AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAGES.

What did you think of the film?

Oh, I loved everything about it: the cast, sets, costumes, it was all perfect.

I’ve never seen the source musical but I knew the story; even so, I was surprised by the sheer quantity of the blood, particularly all the throat-cuttings during “Joanna.”

I was exhilarated by the uncompromising bleakness of the ending, which for me was amplified by the fact that all the principals - Sweeney, Mrs. Lovett, even the Judge - could claim that they were driven by love.

"I had to bite my tongue not to start flailing and whispering that into Mytsis's ear"
That would have been unnecessary, I know you well enough to read your mind, honey ;D!!

This is my review post< from back on Christmas along with comments.

But yes, even a massive fan of the stage show, I love the movie. Still prefer the original of course. It's like book adaptations. You can get a good adaptation, but of course you'll say "But the book was better."

Post wherein I talk about the movie and, uh, some other things. YAY! It makes me weirdly happy when you like things I like. Tim Burton's affection for massive cleavage never ceases to amuse me. The opening credits are just wonderful, especially since he did basically the same thing in the credits for Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, except with chocolate instead of blood.

I'd advise listening to the original Broadway soundtrack, just because there is so much more music in this show than what they put into the movie, and all of it is awesome. I think Sweeney is the one musical that even non-musical fans can like.
