Now I have seen it! Liked it muchly. Ahhh. No more spoiler-dodging. *sighs with relief*
Of course, I'm a sad fuck and kept imagining "Hmm, Mister Master in Yana clothes brandishing a cutthroat razor, putting one gently to Ten's stubbled throat..."
...yes. Am predictable.

What did you think of the film?

I’ve never seen the source musical but I knew the story; even so, I was surprised by the sheer quantity of the blood, particularly all the throat-cuttings during “Joanna.”
I was exhilarated by the uncompromising bleakness of the ending, which for me was amplified by the fact that all the principals - Sweeney, Mrs. Lovett, even the Judge - could claim that they were driven by love.

But yes, even a massive fan of the stage show, I love the movie. Still prefer the original of course. It's like book adaptations. You can get a good adaptation, but of course you'll say "But the book was better."

I'd advise listening to the original Broadway soundtrack, just because there is so much more music in this show than what they put into the movie, and all of it is awesome. I think Sweeney is the one musical that even non-musical fans can like.
