Silk Garden Shawl

Oct 28, 2007 00:10

Gosh, this shawl took a long time to knit. I cast on more than a year ago, but after about two feet, it spent many months bagged up safe from all the building/plastering dust. Now, at last, it is finished.

The pattern is Knitty's Cozy and the yarn is Noro Silk Garden.

I've just been viewing the shawl pictures at full size - it's gorgeous! Definitely worth the wait.

That's a cunning noticeboard. Not only can you have Evil Plans, but they can be Sekrit Evil Plans!

So your aunt made the quilt for your and P's engagement? What an absolutely lovely thing to do - and to have. It's really nice that you can have it out and in use where you'll see it so much.

Thanks! It was so frustrating having to pack it away, but plaster dust would have ruined it.

My aunt's quilts are amazing. Have you seen the one she made for our wedding present? Judy's all-round awesome, most of the crafting she does is for charity - either to sell for fundraising or tiny hospital clothes for the preemie baby unit. She really doesn't charge enough for her work either. £5 for stunning handmade bags that would easily fetch £50 (and probably £500 in the right parts of London).

Oh wow, they're all gorgeous, but especially the shawl. What was the yarn like to knit with? I always assume it's kind of scratchy, for some reason, but it looks absolutely beautiful.

Thank you!

I know opinions differ on Noro stuff - I've used Kureyon and Silk Garden and found both of them lovely to work with, but my hands aren't particularly sensitive to scratchy. There's some bits left over if you'd like to knit up a swatch and see how you get on with it.

Oh wow, thanks! If you don't need it, or want it, I'd love a tiny bit for playing with.

That shawl is lovely. It's so amazing what one can do with a fairly simple pattern and really *nice* yarn.

I so need a Bond Villain corkboard.

Your quilt is gorgeous. Kudos to your aunt.

Thanks! It's stunning yarn, the photos don't really do it justice.

Now, if only the spare bed converted into a sports car my spy hideout would be complete!

That shawl is gorgeous. Even after seeing all the variations with Noro over on Ravelry, I still can't get over how beautiful and different all the projects knit with it appear. The color variation is stunning.

Thanks! I think I need a new dress to wear the sahwl with to do the colours justice.

Is Ravelry good? Should I join the waiting list?
