You really understand the tragedy of Severus Snape, Maurice: his terminal loneliness, his feelings of estrangement from all those around him, and how this precipitates his alliance with Lucius Malfoy, Severus only too willing to be used by the older boy in exchange for acceptance, even though it means reliquishing his one and only true friend, the only one who cared about him for himself. Really, superbly done, Maurice. I love your writing style. It's very elegant and understated in the way you build the relationships between the characters, and foreshadow their futures. I enjoyed this, with a twinge of sadness too, of course. x

Why, thank you! :) I found it hard to try to strike a plausible balance with Snape's attitudes in this, especially as it's incorporating as significant an incident which is a bit unlikely to be part of the canon backstory (the party) -- although the rest would probably be much the same. Glad you enjoyed it!

Really well-done. This is pretty much how I imagine it happening, poor lonely misfit trying desperately to fit in.

Thank you! I wasn't sure I'd pitched it right.

This was an interesting and, I think, insightful look at the interactions between these characters. I think that you wrote it very well and stayed very true to what we know about their identities while still making it very interesting and unique!

Great story
