Career Planning

Originally I said I would take it slow, and not take any classes this summer. In part, it's like, why not save the $500 or so. In part it's that I am not in a HUGE rush to get into nursing school because when I do make that transition, I will have to make a decision about going full time, and that is kind of a nightmare from several perspectives. The nutrition class seems to have a lot of advantages - proximity and counting for the major being the two biggest. If you're going to give up your summer, I say get something useful out of it!

And I'm totally with you on that eagerness that always came with picking classes for the next semester. I'll actually miss taking classes I think. It's been a real luxury to spend the last several years just absorbing as much information as I could!

Oh, it doesn't technically count for the major, it's just related information.

When I was first out of college, I had such a bad taste in my mouth that I knew I didn't want to go back. After a few years passed, though, I wanted it really bad!!! I love school. I wish I had loved it as much back then. :)

To up my GPA. I had a 2.7 from Tech and I would like to gather as many As as possible to counteract that and show that no really, I am a good student, I promise. Getting into nursing school is kind of competitive, yes, even at the community college level.

I wouldn't worry about upping a GPA until they tell you you can't get in with your current GPA. Having taught at a school that also had nursing curricula, it isn't THAT competitive and I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill :)

Take the courses because you want to learn and will enjoy them, not because it will further your career or help you get into nursing school. If learning and fun is not on the agenda, I say just skip em.

Are you sure about that competitive thing? it's only in the last few years, the way I understand it, that it has become so competitive. But then, making a mountain out of a molehill is my special superpower.

The up side of any of this is that I would probably enjoy most of those classes even if they stress me out. (Medical Terminology sounds like a major yawner.)

Take nutrition so I can ask you questions about what to eat. =) It's online, and like you said, it's probably easy.

Or slack off. I couldn't pick 2 options.

That's a tough one. I voted A&P2 because you've just taken the first one and since that's going to be a tough course, I'd want the material to be fresh.
On a purely selfish level, I'm all for biomedical ethics, because you'd totally liven up the lunchroom, but not nutrition, because then I might find out from you exactly how bad the stuff I eat actually is.

For two months, I wouldn't even grace the lunchroom with my presence because I would be studying or quietly having a nervous breakdown in my cube! Or I could come to lunch and make you all quiz me. :)

Believe me - I am the one with the most to personally be afraid of from nutrition class. I eat such crap.

I clicked Abnormal Psych because I loved it- and you should find it fun and *easy* as a summer course.

I too, had understood that nursing school programs can be hard to get into. I'd aim for at least a 3.25... but then again, it probably wouldn't hurt to apply anyway- especially if the poorer grades are obviously from an era past.

Oh, I'll apply - as soon as I have a perfect 4.0 GPA in my current classes, or really close. :) I can't go full time for another, I'd say, 18 months if ever, so I'm not in a hurry to apply, right now I'm just taking classes.

You're right about nursing school. It takes a good, high GPA.
