Career Planning

Originally I said I would take it slow, and not take any classes this summer. In part, it's like, why not save the $500 or so. In part it's that I am not in a HUGE rush to get into nursing school because when I do make that transition, I will have to make a decision about going full time, and that is kind of a nightmare from several perspectives. To up my GPA. I had a 2.7 from Tech and I would like to gather as many As as possible to counteract that and show that no really, I am a good student, I promise. Getting into nursing school is kind of competitive, yes, even at the community college level.

I wouldn't worry about upping a GPA until they tell you you can't get in with your current GPA. Having taught at a school that also had nursing curricula, it isn't THAT competitive and I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill :)

Take the courses because you want to learn and will enjoy them, not because it will further your career or help you get into nursing school. If learning and fun is not on the agenda, I say just skip em.

Are you sure about that competitive thing? it's only in the last few years, the way I understand it, that it has become so competitive. But then, making a mountain out of a molehill is my special superpower.

The up side of any of this is that I would probably enjoy most of those classes even if they stress me out. (Medical Terminology sounds like a major yawner.)

Yeah, I'm pretty sure still. There are still unused seats in nearly all non-highend colleges. The competitiveness kicks in once you're in a program and then competing for the good jobs upon graduation.

But, again, the whole point here is to do what you enjoy. We're too friggin old to start over just for money. That's what someone who's in their mid/early 20s does. Do this because you want to and it will bring you joy, not because you think/hope it makes you more marketable to a program you haven't even applied for yet :)

Put the horse back infront of the cart!

You are just saying this because you want me to level a rogue! Rogue-o-philiac!

Yeah, this is only about money in that I feel confident I could both do something I love AND live comfortably on a nurse's salary.

That said, I plan to talk to someone from the nursing schools before I make my decision to see if they have any advice.

Pfft, I haven't touched a rogue since I left CC all those months ago :)

Good idea to talk to someone from the schools though, especially someone in the admissions dept.
