I almost once committed tentacle!porn in response to a Torchwood prompt for same. Since I'll never get around to actually writing the thing, I can tell you that it involved a crashed spaceship, and a not!watchdog sort of alien whose entire sensory system was in its tentacles. Jack tries to board the spacecraft, and gets a very thorough looking-over by the alien watchdog, who's really pretty friendly and snuggly if you can get over the whole tentacle thing, which Jack does pretty quickly (while Ianto just raises an eyebrow, and Gwen has hysterics).

Actually the appeal may tie in to what you said once about male anatomy, that you don't trust any organ that can move of its own volition. A lot of porn's appeal is imagining yourself as one of the participants, but imho tentacle-porn's appeal is the hilarity of 'watching'.

I think it ties into rape fantasy and the fantasy of being completely used and handled without any power whatsoever. The complete helplessness.

Having that with a human male involved as the rape-ee would make it a little too real for the fantasy or put a level of malevolence into it. The emotions get complex.

With a tentacle monster it's simpler, especially if it's a monster with aphrodesiac slime or something.

*cough* I have to admit that I've seen rather a lot of tentacle porn (no, not crackfic--professionally made anime). As someone says above, it's really just another flavor of rape fantasy. I don't think it's that terribly different from demon/human stories with non-hot (but humanoid) demons or porn with gross, ugly dudes gangbanging some chick. The ickiness of one part of the pairing just adds to the wrongness of it. Plus alien tentacle monsters are covered with slime, so people can avoid writing lube into their stories. (Come on, tell me that's not enough motivation right there!)

The only smutty fic I've read that has involved tentacles are to do with aliens (like Londo in Babylon 5 who canonically has tentacles as sex organs) and interspecies... interactions. I like them if they make sense in that universe and are creative and aren't written with dub-con undertones... but there's not very much of that about and I'm not sure if that counts as the same thing.

Generally tentacle porn is about weird crackiness I think with a side order of rape fantasy and, I'm sure, there's probably an element of enjoying being shocked/grossed out.
