Will they take small clothing donations? (I have a ton of clothes I don't need anymore, and that's pretty much all I can donate right now because I have no money. I did give a few bucks to the Red Cross, but I can't afford to make any donation that's worth a damn.)

What pisses me off is what I hear from my dad (which is ubstantiated to me at this point): that the United States turned down something like a billion dollars in aid and gasoline at $40 a barrell from Iran... and we also turned aid down from other countries like The Netherlands. Why? This just doesn't make any sense... when the tsunami hit in Asia we were all ready to help out and donate millions of dollars to help those people, so why shouldn't we also accept charitable donations from other countries? It blows my mind.

Nagin is the man, you gotta love him.. although at the end his "biggest crisis in the history of this country" might be, to be fair, slighly over the top...

What I don't understand is, just like he said, why isn't every city's Greyhound squad driving down there? Take Nashville. Why aren't we sending buses to bring people to shelter?

Not to sound too skeptical, but if they can't get it together to lower troops down to the ground, how will they get our donated food to them? It's just a total, complete mess. If there's another terrorist attack on America, we will truly see whether or not the current situation is just a reflection of the federal government's laziness, or if the New Orleans flood was basically a mass-scale product of our country's ongoing racism.

after typing this, I realized that I'll probably get attacked by someone by downplaying this tragedy. That's not what I intended to do.. perhaps this will, in the end, be our nation's greatest tragedy.

i totally agree with everything you said, sam. and i don't think you are downplaying it. i think the mayor was caught up in the moment, and should have been careful with his words. however, i think when the bodies are counted, more people will have died due to this than in 9/11. which, to date, was the most americans killed on american soil in one day. granted, this is more than one day, and it is impossible to know when people died. but regardless, it will be a horrible number.

you sound like a rich girl that has no idea what she's talking about. why dont you put your money where your mouth is and actually do something about it instead of being like every other american and ONLY complaining
