This just bugs me.

So, last time I was at the regular grocery store, I snagged a copy of How to Train Your Dragon.  This meant I had to go through an actual checkout line, since the DVD had a theft protection device on it and the self-checks don't exactly come with removers for those.  Sadly, this left me open for the following fail:

The bagger asked me if I was ( Read more... )

Being asked if I was buying for my son should please me, I suppose, but it's actually a major trigger factor- so many people assume I will have had kids being a 'woman of a certain age' :o)

I'd have given my right srm to have had kids.......:o(

:(

If only wanting kids was enough to have them. A magical universe would be nice sometimes.

(And if I thought I were sane enough to be a parent, I might well want kids, myself. Who knows.)

Ha! I had this happen a few years ago at a used bookstore. I had a stack of graphic novels (Batman, Justice League, etc.) and SF/fantasy books, half of which were for me and half of which were for my father's birthday present. And the guy asked if I was buying them for my son.

::headdesk:: Dude. No. Just...no.

The weird thing is I've never run into that before. Comic book stores, sci-fi bookstores, gaming stores, no one's ever assumed I was shopping for anyone other than myself. Or, if they have, they've never said anything.

Ah, for the gumption to actually add "but thank you for the age and gender fail" to your response, huh? I always hope my face expresses my dismay, because my mouth is normally gobsmacked. I hate getting commentary on my purchases.

Yeah. Though I am pleased that I was able to tell her I was buying it for me. Sometimes my anxiety issues make it hard for me to correct people. But working with the public for almost a year and a half has helped. A lot.

Oh, ick. On the other hand, yay for you.

I was proud of myself for responding, the first time I bought some skirts, that they were for me and not some sort of costume. These days I don't know what I would do.
