As a guy who makes his living with paper and ink, I am often annoyed hearing people urge to be "environmentally friendly" or "save trees" by just putting all information online. Sure, the web is a wonderful thing. I love it, and I use it daily. But it's a poor alternative to many print pieces, and type on the web is, almost always without fail, ( Read more... )

I've often retorted by reminding people advocating online-only publications in the name of environmental stewardship that computers run on coal.

In France they run on atoms. Now, where to place the waste is another story but...

'Tis true. I suppose a counterargument to my own could be that, in the future, many more of our computers will be running off the sun or the wind, and all those bits of iron will still be available to translate using the sun or the wind, but that will take a while ...
