Frito Pies....

Today me and my family made one of my favorite southwestern dishes. They say it was invented here in my town back in the '60's at Woolworth's... the store closed but the restaurant stayed open. Anyway, it's called the "Frito Pie" it contains:

Recipe inside.. (quantities left out but I think it's self explanatory) )

I grew up eating this stuff. Sarah loves it, though I can't eat much anymore.

Sounds yummy and bad for you. I'll have to try it, though.

If it is bad for you it's probably mostly because of the Fritos... and it also depends on how you make the chili (whether you use stuff like.. pork fat or even *gasp* lard). Other people lower it down a notch by not putting any veggies on it at all (no lettuce and tomato).

Oh, it's horribly bad for you - that's why it's so good. The Fritos are fairly high-fat, and the chili can be, too. We usually just used a big can of Hormel and no veggies. Throw it in the oven long enough to warm everything up and melt the cheese.
