My Reward for this is Lawyer Jokes

So, I decided to take the bar again. So far this has basically meant that I spend hours and hours making little notecards with THE LAW on them and trying to memorize them on the Metro and then trying to interpret THE LAW onto the practice multi-state questions. So that's been bad enough and also all I have thought about for several weeks ( Read more... )

Buying the Right Windows Install shetiger July 12 2010, 01:32:55 UTC
First of all, this is from Shetiger's significant other. I have a Mac and deal with this all the time as we develop software for other companies that must run on Mac, Windows and Linux ( ... )

This is awesome advice. Thank you so much! I have followed all the links and read everything so I will report back when I have some results. Or lack thereof.

I partitioned my hardrive and installed windows on my mac so I could run the exam-taking program we use at my lawschool. It was one of the more costly mistakes I've made (it was around $300) and you give up valuable hard drive space - the partition is a permanent loss of disk space. Plus your mac can get viruses from running windows. Also, I think bootcamp only works with vista, but I'd check on that just to make sure.

If I were you, I'd just buy an old PC laptop from craigslist or a netbook that comes with windows or borrow one from somebody.

Argh I hate this law shit. It's ExamSoft, right? Does anyone use anything else? :P Do you know anything about the Virtual Box thing? The not having to partition was my main attraction to that, so would I be able to wipe everything off after that?

ETA: Turns out virtualization software is a no-go. Alas.

Yeah, examsoft can suck it. You can't use console programs with examsoft and probably w/ the bar because you could still access the other programs on your mac at the same time as the software, which they don't like.

Brother-of-Woj is not a Mac person, so obvs the first commenter is far and away the person to listen to, but if you are still in need, let me know.

I still definitely need the program. Could we rendezvous at your office or something to get it? I'm just worried that I'll set it up on Friday and it won't work and then I'll have to change my exam location and all sorts of BS since its' not at the convention center - it's at four different places and they're divided by laptop/non-laptop takers, so if I change I have to go to the one place instead of the awesome 5-miles-away place.

Of course. I'm actually spending most of the week in Columbia (when not at work) to help out the parents (Mom will be at the beach by herself and doesn't want to walk two dogs who can't walk together, so the girls and I are staying with Rosie), so I can just swing by your place tomorrow on my way up, if that works? I would do it at work tomorrow but I am at interview a huge chunk of the day.

Sure, that's fine. Just let me know what time. I am considering looking to see how cheap I can get a used laptop or something because of *handwave* issues mentioned above. But I will definitely need it if I go the partitioning route.

Actually it turns out I can't use virtualization software of any sort. Unless your exam is non-secure which will not be the case with the bar. :P It looks like one of my friends here is going to be able to get me Windows, as long as it's a version that will work but thanks! I should have posted it last week but I didn't realize it was going to be such a big deal and I really wasn't keeping a close eye on LJ. I'm sorry I missed you!
