So, I decided to take the bar again. So far this has basically meant that I spend hours and hours making little notecards with THE LAW on them and trying to memorize them on the Metro and then trying to interpret THE LAW onto the practice multi-state questions. Actually you can get it cheaper. Microsoft sells what they call OEM versions of Windows at sometimes 1/2 the price. You don't get support but you do save money so if you are fine with figuring it out on your own (who other than businesses use Microsoft support now days?) I suggest going OEM.
Here are details on OEM software so you know the legal side of things: http://arstechnica.com/hardware/news/2007/01/8730.ars .
Here is what you might consider buying: http://www.amazon.com/Windows-Home-Premium-System-Builder/dp/B002NGJO4M/ref=sr_1_2?s=software&ie=UTF8&qid=1278897674&sr=1-2 . Note this is a 64 bit version so make sure your Mac is also 64 bit. You can find a 32 bit version or just get the XP OEM version.
Also, I would suggest checking out Virtual Box. This runs Windows inside of the Mac. It works just fine for every day use but you can start it up inside your Mac session so you don't have to reboot your machine to switch back and forth. If you want to play games, stick with Boot Camp, Virtual Box does NOT handle that well. Here is where you can find Virtual Box: http://www.virtualbox.org/ . The only problem I have with it is that the mouse is sometimes a little slow to respond. Also, if you use it, make sure you give it more than the default 10 GB of hard drive space or you will run out fast. Perhaps 50 GB would be better but it depends on how much hard drive space you can spare.
