It is NOT babysitting when it's your kid. That is one of my biggest peeves. Second only to said jackass thinking that he should be rewarded for actually being in the same room with his kid.
Exactly! To be fair, I wasn't talking to the father - I was talking to the father's boss, who apparently felt it was just fine to share all this info about his assistant with me. Which just made me hate him more.
I think the term babysitting is at least accurate - because you can be sure this guy isn't doing any actual *parenting.* He's just operating on the level of a 13-year-old girl who doesn't even like kids, just wants the pocket money.
Haha, okay, yeah, if a guy calls it babysitting his own kid, that's probably exactly what he was doing. (Growing up, those holidays when Dad had off and Mom didn't, it was all about, "Uh...what movie is playing? Come on Disney, come through for me!") I do know a lot of guys who are awesome dads and would never call hanging out with their kids babysitting...this guy might even be the same. I wasn't talking to him, I was talking to his boss, who apparently thought it was just fine to discuss his assistant's personal life with me. But the boss was already wasting my time, so I didn't feel bad about blowing him off at all.
Oh, please don't think I was standing up for anyone. And, yes, in all fairness to the guy in question, I think I missed that this was his boss talking. So, shame on his boss.
