My good friend bissonmomma posted a link to an article in the Huffington Post.

Apparently, the Dept of Health & Human Safety is moving to classify contraceptives as a form of abortion, with the specific intent of allowing agencies that receive federal funding to refuse to offer it to their patients. In other words, they want poor women with no access to ( Read more... )

*sigh* And to think my British female friends can't believe that American women even have to pay for contraceptives, as it's all free here. The morning after pill is free if you go to a doctor for it. You have to pay for the morning after pill if you go to a pharmacy without a prescription, but it's been available that way over the counter for years. For birth control pills, you get a six-month free prescription, then you return to the doctor for a blood pressure check (free appointment on the NHS, of course) and another free six months' worth. *sigh*

I used to moonlight at the following clinic back in the US, where women had access to cheap or free if they were really low-income, contraceptives.

What pisses me off is you know these same bible thumpin self righteous horse's asses who think a fetus's rights trump that of the carrying case it's housed in (ie: mom) will turn around in 5 years & tell the child that it better pull itself up by its boot straps & stop being a drain on society. *shakes fist*

Ah, well, I guess the kidlets who are born poor can always join the military in 18 years, when there's another pointless war.
