We've had a phone call from the HR people at hubby's work. They are offering to give him an open reference, date of start/finish, attendance and how well he worked. But this is to be in return for us dropping the case of unfair dismissal against them that we have raised through Employment Tribunal. Methinks they are a bit worried. We are going ( Read more... )

actually mog, I work for a large mulit national and we don't give comments about attendence or how people work just start end dates, reason for leaving, and job title

I didnt' speak to them but apparently she claims that if asked for a reference they have to tell people why he was dismissed. I dont' believe that is the case as most references are in form of questions and only ask about attendance etc.

We get sent forms all the time and they get the same standard letter. but the reason for leaving is one of the answers we give, but we only say resignation or redundance usually

What did I tell you!! of course an open reference means little as a prespective employer will ALWAYS go direct to the company aswell.

speak to ACAS now as advice.

as he got that other job or was it not worth it?

The job is currently open for him to take up pending CRB but he's not physically fit and won't be for another few weeks so it depends on how long CRB takes. Financially it's not actually worth it but it would get him back into work and give him a different last employer to give for references. (if that makes sense)

Keep as posted with what ACAS say and I hope that this is a positive sign. Lets hope that are worried and that they will make suitable ammends.
