Just hang in there! I know exactly what you're going through. I had BP for 2 months in 2003. It's hard...and I know what's it's like to feel like a freak. Just rest and try not to stress over it. Little by little you'll see the changes when you're recovering. I was never on Prednisone, so I'm not sure about the metallic taste. I remember my doctor telling me to sing/say old mcdonald had a farm (as silly as that may seem) because the ee-iiii--eee--iii--oooo was good exercise to get the strength back in my mouth. I hope your recovery comes quick :)
you're young...so age is definitely on your side (that's what they told me...). Just keep your head up!!!
When I first got BP, I thought my life was OVER. Well, it came at a really bad time. I had been stressing about a long-distance relationship that had just ended (which I partially blame for my episode). I also was scheduled to go on vacation the next week after I was diagnosed!!! That was supposed to be a trip to relax myself after the breakup! LOL. Karma isn't so nice sometimes.

I had the same thing on prednisone. It went away not long after I stopped the treatment. I hope it works for you -- I was very fortunate, it cleared it up for me completely. I did have some problems (it was at the beginning of my school year too) but nothing too bad. Everyone was very understanding.
I didn't experience the thing with the steroids. I got mine at in the middle of my last semester of senior year in college. I had it for 2 months. It really sucked. Tell your teachers about it. Mine were really understanding about it. They gave me extra time of tests and assignments since it took twice as long to do readings with the eye and the constant eye drops and all that. As it's healing it gets better, if you're like me, you won't have much trouble eating and drinking after about 2 weeks. Then it's just the aesthetics, and the difficulty communicating without a broad range of facial expression. I know that telling you that I know how you feel and all that won't help because it didn't help me but just know that it probably will go away. Now, it's just a funny story I tell at parties.
