Phoenix was casually taking a walk around campus when all of a sudden, he thought he stepped into a Renaissance fair. Yes, there was a very effeminate knight, dressed to the nines, riding atop a white horse with his sword in hand. Either this was some sick dream or it was a Renaissance fair.

Or.. it was just this school with all of its weird people and talking animals and whatnot. By now, Phoenix should have just known to expect a man convinced he was from the medieval era riding on his well-groomed horse. Still, he couldn't help but stare oddly. That was a beautiful horse, though, Phoenix had to admit.

He didn't want to disturb the man, so he stood by and watched as the knight tackled his obstacles.

Phoenix didn't want to say anything about Eggman to Marth, as he didn't want to start any rumors or base relationships around talking badly about people. At least not yet. Maybe once he got more used to this ex-laywer business, he would be a little more lax about this kind of thing.

"Ah well, I haven't seen him teach, so I can't say much on the matter," he offered. Maybe Eggman was a decent teacher. Maybe not. But he was not a great person ( ... )

"Ah, but knowledge is useful to me, no matter what the situation may be. I have my people to attend to and to consider. Their positions. Their happiness. Political science would likely come as a great deal of beneficial information to not only integrate into my life, but the life of my people as well."

Because just about everything he did was for the sake of his people. At least it had been up until recently. His decision not to return to Akaneia and to simply leave it in the hands of his older sister would have seemed utterly preposterous and too spur of the moment. In actuality, he'd given it well about three years of thought, and still the man was determined. He had been born and raised in Akaneia's lands. He had been looked down upon by celestial being who guided them. But all the same, he had only discovered that his heart was located elsewhere.

"So I think I will find some enjoyment in it," he reiterated to the kind former lawyer.

Phoenix smiled at the eager student, but wasn't sure what he meant by "his people." Marth was just a boy, probably about 18 or 19 or so. Perhaps he came from a very tight-knit community of some sort. Or maybe he lived at a Renaissance fair, if his clothes were any indication.

However, he brushed it aside and was glad that Marth seemed to be a learned, well-versed, and eager student.

"I'm glad to hear that," he finally said. He was loosening up a little bit around Marth, as he seemed to be a trustworthy boy. Maybe having this guy teach him how to ride a horse wouldn't be as humiliating as he thought it would be. Though he figured it would be more amusing if Maya were watching to laugh at him.

There was a part of Marth that had a hard time not being the slightest bit amused by Phoenix's behaviour. The man was so tightly wound up. At least it certainly seemed that way. He didn't know if it was just a ruse, or if Phoenix truly was that sort of person. And coming from someone who undoubtedly spent more of his time being serious, Marth thought it the slightest bit odd that he could find someone capable of outdoing him in the field.

He looked over his left shoulder toward the other white mare and as he turned, a mostly-gloved hand lifted and motioned towards her. "If you are interested in learning, then I would be glad to offer some assistance. You should know, however, that where I come from, the best way to learn is to have the first person experience."

Then he smiled reassuringly, "But do not fret. I shall not depart and leave you to your own devices. I will stay at your side and guide you." And then Marth charmed all of the men of the academy as well. Oops.

Riding a horse couldn't be that difficult, could it? No, of course not. Besides, he found Marth awkwardly charming. Not in a romantic sort of way, no, but in more of an "I can easily trust this guy" way. Oops Marth did charm all of the boys. Okay no don't worry Phoenix isn't going to crush on him.

This would certainly, at the very least, be an interesting way to spend the afternoon.

"Well, okay, I suppose I could do that." He looked at the beautiful white mare and then thought on how fast and boldly Marth had been riding. No, he wouldn't be able to do anything like that, but at the very least he could sit on the horse while it was going at a slow trot.

So, Phoenix awkwardly climbed onto the saddle of the white horse, checking to make sure he wasn't a complete idiot and sitting backwards. No, he was sitting forwards, at least. Well this was going to be weird.

Marth was very patient as he waited. And truth be told, he would have been perfectly fine with Phoenix deciding not to do it either. But he certainly wasn't going to make someone else stand around and watch him train. At least with Phoenix getting a learning experience, the emperor could lend a hand, make a new ally, and portray himself in a rather good light. (Mind you, he'd never portrayed himself in any other kind. The young man probably couldn't even be anything but good ( ... )

Phoenix awkwardly sat atop the horse as it walked along in the Stadium. Okay, this wasn't so bad. The mare was well-behaved and didn't seem to mind Phoenix sitting atop her. Besides, Marth was right there. He really was a nice guy, not only letting him ride his horse, but taking time to instruct him like this.

Phoenix was a bit tense, but as the horse continued walking, he eased up a bit, remembering Marth's statement about the horse being able to sense its rider's feelings. Okay, this wasn't bad. Nope. Just go with the flow.

Marth found himself unable to hide his chuckles. At least momentarily. Then he eyed Phoenix and exchanged his gaze between the rider and the ridden. "You look like you are doing well." He gave an encouraging nod and simply strode along, head lifted high, and Marth could not hide his proud gait. But he generally walked in such a fashion. It was just mostly based on perspective as to how people interpreted him.

"What do you think? It is not so terrible, right?" he asked with a smile.

Phoenix certainly wasn't surprised that an experienced horseman like Marth was stifling back chuckles at the sight of this awkward ex-lawyer attempting to ride. It probably was really hilarious to any onlookers. It was getting easier with time, though, but Phoenix knew that this was only the beginning.

"No, it's not too bad," he replied with slightly calmer nerves.

His confidence was growing now, so maybe he would be able to take the horse at a faster pace. He didn't want to do anything until he asked Marth, though, since, well, it was his horse, and he was the guy who knew things.

"So, when do I become a gallant rider like you?" He grinned at Marth.

While the situation itself was amusing, Phoenix's gradual growth to understanding the relationship one could form with a horse was a little more intriguing to watch. Marth had learned to ride from a very young age and had never exactly taught anyone else before. One could only teach the subject when they were proficient with it. He'd had confidence in his abilities, of course, however ( ... )

Of course. The Renaissance fair man was riding horses practically out of the womb. While Phoenix knew he probably wouldn't ride horses much after this day, it was still fascinating to see such an experienced rider such as Marth.

While Phoenix did enjoy riding, he didn't think he'd come back for regular lessons. Besides, he didn't actually own any horses, and he couldn't actually borrow someone else's. That would be akin to stealing someone's pet without permission. Or... something.

"Oh, well... I mean," he responded, hesitating with the words, "I do enjoy it, really. I mean, maybe I'll come back sometime!" Though there were really better things Phoenix wanted to do in his spare time, such as relaxing. Then again, he thought he might take up painting again, having not had time to do much since he graduated from college. For now, though, it was really up in the air whether Phoenix would come back in the near future to hone his riding skills. It was enjoyable, though. He could see how riders could form immense bonds with their horses, ( ... )

Once again Phoenix sounded uncertain and Marth could not fight the smile curling into his lips. But there was no reason to fight it, he assumed. It was not as though his expression or his thoughts held any malice. Perhaps there was a bit of mirth, but Marth was, without a doubt, lacking in venom most of the time. His weight shifted and he found his arms folding over his chest as he listened patiently and attentively.

"I am also without doubt that I will be gracing the stadium again. Perhaps one of these days your skill will increase so that we could train with one another. I am certain I could use an able body to lend me a hand in honing my strengths."

Not that he had intentions of ever making Phoenix accompany him into war, but that Phoenix could be more than simply a professor to him. But then, Marth hardly ever considered a person one thing and one alone. What a narrow-minded perspective, after all.
