"My records." He replied immediately. "It's good to check every so often and make sure new stuff isn't added."

He knew that she knew that he was She was onto him, he knew that. And he was onto her. Come onnnn you stupid lock. It was a lie, yeah, and kind of a risky one at that. Though he didn't really have a problem with Samus seeing his records (there wasn't anything in them that she didn't already know), he'd just given her the opportunity to snag her own file, and Falcon needed to find a way to discreetly take a peek inside hers before she realized he was looking at it and snatched it away.

So he'd use his height to his advantage and buy time. "And it's also good to maybe page through new faculty. I'm sure you understand."

She saw right through that one, and it felt like the tension in the room was slowly growing with every avoidant, sneaky, subliminal word spoken out of both of their mouths. "New stuff, huh? Like Ionia?" Samus leaned left to peak around his other shoulder and he seemed to move the same way just to block her view. She moved right and he insisted on being a stubborn bastard.

Stubborn bastard. "Oh. I know only too well." She was tired of just standing there while he was first in line at the filing cabinet and realizing he was fully using his height to buy time. "You're having a hard time with that lock..."

So. Logically she would have to counter this by using her... not height to just slip along side the wall and under his arm, popping up right in front of him with her back butting up against his chest. Maybe trying to push him away just a little. "Maybe I should look at it."

Yeah. She didn't buy it. But he was going to play along anyway with the hopes he could be convincing enough for her to eventually buy it and let him go about his birthday-hunting business. "Maybe." He could feel her moving around behind him and he was definitely shifting his weight accordingly. "You can never be too careful."

A frown. "I'm pretty sure I'm having a hard time with this lock because someone else seems to enjoy late-night strolls and Master Hand adjusted the security accordingly. It's nothing I can't--"

But he didn't finish because suddenly she had ducked under him and was fiddling with the lock herself. That would not do. He slipped his arms under hers so that he was holding the lock again, sidled up next to her and not-so subtly bumped her away with his hip. "I've almost got it. And you didn't tell me what you're doing here."

If Master Hand was adjusting it with just different locks that wasn't going to be a problem for Samus. What was going to be a problem was being Falcon hip-bumped away from the cabinet. Samus was going to just have to return fire.

"I was actually..." Her hands reached out for the lock not caring if Falcon's hands were still there messing with it; at least she could prevent him from trying anymore. "...just looking..." Then she not-so subtly bumped him with her hip. And she had a lot more hip to bump with. "For my file."

She was very close to just ripping the lock off. She could blame it on Falcon.

"Oh?" Falcon said, trying to ignore the fact that the two of them were now trying to bump each other out of the way like a couple of schoolchildren. She was definitely on to him now and he needed to think fast or this whole thing was going to explode into violence. Maybe he should just come out with it. "And what do you need in your file?"

By this point they were both struggling with the lock and fighting each other for it, so it surprised Falcon a little when he managed to shove the pick in far enough for it to spring open. He gave Samus a split-second glance before pulling the drawer open and beginning a (rather frantic) search. All he needed to do was to find her file before she did.
