Law&Prada part 4

sorry its taken me so long to get this up...I really struggled with it and I have no idea why...but now it should run more smoothly because I think I've decided who I want the culprit to be...

Miranda knew she wasn’t thinking logically, but at the moment, she didn’t care. She stormed into the squad room and marched up to the female detective. “Detective Benson, it has been THREE DAYS. Three days since I last heard from you. Where are my girls?” She slammed her palms on the detective’s desk and glowered at her.

“Ms. Priestly, I assure you, we’re doing everything we can to find those girls. It’s our top priority.”

Miranda scoffed. “That’s what you all say when you’re trying to appease someone.”

“We’re working this case nonstop. We’re doing the best we can.” Olivia stared straight back at her.

Miranda rose and paced the room a little. “You don’t get it, do you? I have a wife at home going out of her mind because she thinks this is all her fault. She won’t rest until the girls are home. I have a new baby that needs attention from both of her mothers constantly. And I have a job that requires me to work all hours of the day with very little help from my employees. Life was hectic before this happened. Can you even begin to imagine what it’s like now?”

Alex heard the rant as she was walking out of Cragen’s office and she marched up to the woman. “Ms. Priestly?”

Miranda turned to stare at the woman. “Who the hell are you?”

“ADA Alexandra Cabot. I’ve been working very closely with the detectives to ensure that your girls are brought home safely.”

“Oh really, what have you been doing?” Miranda raised an eyebrow and crossed her arms over her chest. She had to keep herself from tapping her foot impatiently on the ground.

“I’ve been securing warrants to check the houses of all suspects. We’ve combed over the list of former employees and have tracked them all down to make sure that none of them had any reason to take your girls.”

“Why on earth would a former employee want to harm my girls? They were grateful for the opportunity to work for me.”

Alex raised an eyebrow. “With all due respect Ms. Priestly, your reputation precedes you. You aren’t exactly the easiest person to work for.”

Miranda was fuming now. “Oh really, Ms. Cabot? I have to put out the best fashion magazine every month. All I require from my employees is their best performance to ensure that we do, in fact, get the best magazine. If they can’t handle that, then they weren’t meant for this business in the first place and I fail to see how that is my problem or my fault.”

Alex stared at the older woman. “I have heard that you show no mercy when you fire someone. Do you think anyone would hold a grudge because of that?”

“If they got fired, it was their own damn fault. It obviously means they weren’t giving me their best. Don’t you listen?”

“I hear you loud and clear.”

“Good, then hear this. I want my girls found now. I don’t care if you have to secure warrants to search the home of every person in this damn city, I just want my girls back.”

“Ms. Priestly, I believe it would be highly difficult to secure warrants for every home. Not to mention the fact that we don’t have that kind of money or manpower.”

“I fail to see where any of that is my problem. Are you saying my girls should suffer because you all lack the ability to do a proper search?”

“Contrary to your belief, Ms Priestly, we are doing a proper search. I’ve told you what we’ve done so far to try and find them and if that isn’t enough for you, I do apologize. It is physically impossible for us to do much more than that at this point in time.”  For the first time in the conversation, Alex could feel her anger rising.

“Not enough? Of course it’s not enough! It’s not going to be enough until my girls are back home where they belong.”

“You do realize that we have other cases to work on, Ms. Priestly. We can’t let other victims suffer just because you want to take up all of our time. It is highly illogical.”

“Screw illogical! I’ve had it up to here with this place. I want my girls and I want you people scouring every nook and cranny of this city to find them.”

“Ms. Priestly, consider yourself lucky that we are actually continuing to actively work on this case. New cases pour in every day, but we keep your girls on top of the list.”

Miranda scoffed. “That’s why I’m holding them in my arms right now.” She rounded on both of the women. “Do either of you have kids?” They just stared at her. “You have no idea what it feels like to not know where they are or if they are even alive.” She could feel tears forming in her eyes and knew she needed to wrap it up before they became noticeable to everyone else. “I want my girls found and I want them found now. Or I swear, there will be hell to pay.” And with that, Miranda made her grand exit. Storming out of the building and whipping her sunglasses over her eyes, Miranda made her exit and the tears followed.

Alex stared at Olivia, slightly in shock. She wasn’t used to being talked to that way. Granted, parents ranted and raved at her all the time, but never had she met someone with the air of Miranda Priestly. There were no words for that woman.

She shook her and turned to the detectives. “Any new leads?”

Elliot and Olivia shook their heads.
