Alec sat on the roof of his car, were he could see the window to John's room and watched the man pour salt across the sill. Jinx sprawled beside his with his head on Alec's thigh. The Hound gave a deep sigh. "Yeah, no shit." After another long moment Alec pulled out his phone and called his father.
Dean was at home in front of the TV with a beer, just relaxing for the evening. When he heard his phone ring, he picked it up without bothering to look up at the caller ID, just answering right away. "Yeah?"
"Hey, Dad. Uh. . " Shit there was no good way to do this. "What are you doing right now. " He pause. "And if you're in pajamas I don't want to know."
Dean shrugged. "Just watching TV. What's up?"
"Let me know once you've set the beer down."
Dean frowned slightly, before doing as he said. "Alright -- beer's down."
"I uh, found your dad. In a bar." He cringed.
There was a long silence on the other end of the phone, before Dean spoke up again, slightly stunned. "You found who?"
"John Winchester." So there could be no mistake.
"And how did you find him, exactly?"
Alec rubbed a hand over his face. "By accident. I was shooting pool and when I turned around. . .there he was. He thought I was you for a minute."
"And is he -- " Dean let his voice trail for a moment, and Alec would know what he was asking.
"Alive. Human."
Dean was quiet again for a moment, before closing his eyes for a moment. "Son of a bitch."
". . .yeah, he'd kinda that to."
Dean shot up slightly at that, before groaning, almost. "What did he say?"
"A bunch of nasty things about Amy." Clearly the man had not won himself any points.
"That doesn't surprise me. Dad and demons don't exactly get along."
"Yeah, well I think he thinks less of your parenting skill for allowing it to continue and condoning it." He winced. "I don't think he likes me to much and I think I got you in trouble." Then his tone goes slightly defensive. "How was i supposed to know he was gonna hate half the family their sulfery after taste."
"He -- hasn't exactly had our shared experience with the demon that is Amy," Dean sighed. "Though I don't think meeting her will actually help matters."
"Okay." He bit his lip. "I told him if he was rude or mean to her, you know, more than he is to everyone else, I'd deck him. Maybe not the best way to go, but. . "
"I'll -- try to explain," Dean said with a sigh. "And -- don't worry about getting me in trouble with my dad, alright? Letting my kid hang out with the friendliest demon I've ever met is going to look tiny when he finds out what Sam's been up to since he died."
". . .how has Sam done anything that wrong? I mean if the gand sceme of things."
"The whole psychic boy wonder thing? Not exactly kosher as far as Dad was concerned. I was -- supposed to keep that from happening."
"Yeah? How? It's just. . .Sam." Colour Alec confused.
"I was told that I either had to stop Sam -- or I'd have to kill him."
Alec. . ."That the most retarded thing I've ever heard."
"Yeah, well -- that was Dad."
"I'm glad I didn't tell him much about Sam now. Or that Ben and I have gifts to. Or hell, that Ruby is a demon."
"Yeeeeeeeah -- about Ruby. Let's keep that under wraps for as long as we can. I know it's next to impossible, considering it's her, but -- I don't want him and Sam getting into an argument about Sam's demon girlfriend when they first see each other again."
"Uh, no. . .given the givin's I think that might be about my hell hound."
"Let's face it, I most likly cocked this up pretty badly."
"Not your fault," Dean sighed. "We're a bad example of how our father would react to most things."
"S'okay." There was a shrug in his voice if that was possable. "I've made it this long with the family I have. Anyway, I have him stashed for you."
"Where?"
"Ashland and 52nd. Gena's place. He didn't want me to call you until tomorrow."
"Yeah, I would have smacked you if you waited until then."
". . .he didn't want me calling you at all and I told him he was tapped if he thought I was doing that."
"Good."
"Well, at least I know you pretty well. So, do I get a prize for finding and wrapping your dad up for delivery?"
He chuckled. "There might be something in it for you. I'll see you when I get there."
"Awesome." That eased some of the tension. "See you soon."
"Yup," Dean nodded, before hanging up.
Alec slipped his phone back into his pocket and curled up with Jinx while he waited for Dean.
