The circumstances are strange today. Let's all do our best to remember that it's important to conduct ourselves with civility and respect regardless of how the possibility of social consequences may have been minimized ( Read more... )

Hm . . . If I knew who you were, I might cast a sleep spell on you, which would definitely make you sleep.

How long does a sleep spell last? Does the subject undergo the usual transition into slow-wave and REM sleep?

I think so. It's a usual sort of sleep -- except the subject doesn't usually wake up for 8-10 hours. Sometimes 12, too, I think. It's used as a defensive spell usually; it's not meant to damage anyone at all.

If there's an emergency, is it possible for them to wake up sooner than that?

Have you spoken to a doctor about being unable to sleep? I'm not sure what else to suggest regarding your troubles, though it does sound very difficult. I sympathise, though for different reasons--

Not as such. For various reasons, I already know a lot of the more general advice a doctor might give. I suppose I'll try to speak to someone with more specialized knowledge if all else fails. Eventually.

Thank you, though.

I see. Then it would be rather redundant.

Still, you're quite welcome and I hope something works for you.

I hope so too. I'm sure it'll work out somehow.

Get drunk.

I've tried that, but the results weren't that good. Even mild hangover symptoms are a problem...

Then what in the world is wrong with you? Why don't you have your Captain diagnose it?

I'm not sure what you mean!

Get someone to punch you really fucking hard.

Unfortunately, the kind of unconsciousness that comes from being knocked out isn't physically restful... Thank you, though.

Watch a documentary or some shit like that.

... A documentary on sleep disorders?

You mentioned psychological issues as being 'a lot of the problem'. I would go further and tell you it is all of the problem, from beginning to end.

small_comfort August 26 2008, 17:13:12 UTC
I suppose that could be true. What would the solution be, then?

Counseling, from a licensed trusted practitioner. You said noncontinuous sleep; I'm guessing that you mean you wake frequently--accompanied by a sense of panic, perhaps?

Night terrors are nothing to take lightly.

I do, but it's not usually a sense of panic... maybe every once in a while, but not usually.

I really wouldn't go as far as 'night terrors'...
