I think so. It's a usual sort of sleep -- except the subject doesn't usually wake up for 8-10 hours. Sometimes 12, too, I think. It's used as a defensive spell usually; it's not meant to damage anyone at all.
Have you spoken to a doctor about being unable to sleep? I'm not sure what else to suggest regarding your troubles, though it does sound very difficult. I sympathise, though for different reasons--
Not as such. For various reasons, I already know a lot of the more general advice a doctor might give. I suppose I'll try to speak to someone with more specialized knowledge if all else fails. Eventually.
Counseling, from a licensed trusted practitioner. You said noncontinuous sleep; I'm guessing that you mean you wake frequently--accompanied by a sense of panic, perhaps?
