If he were braver, he'd have gone after Sirius, run down the stairs and out the door, chased him down wherever he went, done anything to get him back. He’d have begged and pleaded with Sirius to stay, or perhaps to be taken with, to leave behind the hollow house he grew up in to coil around his only source of warmth.
But he isn't a Gryffindor, he's a Slytherin; a cold, angry snake. He hisses, a sharp intake of breathe as he sees his former brother on the train, and doesn’t hesitate before aiming his wand at his back.
