I think the ABBY JOHNSON HAS SEEEEN THE LIGHT saga is so hilarious, I needed to post it here.

It starts with rejoicing from the pro-life community! Abby Johnson, a Planned Parenthood clinic director, participated in an abortion procedure and it turned her pro-life! She quit her job and joined the Life Coalition in consequence! Hallelujah!!.... ( Read more... )

I don't think it's out of the question for a clinic director to assist with procedures, but the ultrasound machine is a whole different ballgame. This story really bothered me, because even if she were to have this sudden change of conscience, why go to the people who made your life hell and threatened your family? Why go to them, instead of resigning and going on to work at another medical-type clinic? I'm really happy to hear that it's full of holes, because the initial reports made it sound like it was all checked out, and the fact that she went to them really set off alarms for me.

because they'll give you a lot of money to do so? ...juuuuuust sayin'.

If you're talking about e.g. holding a patient's hand during the procedure, ok, but operating the ultrasound machine while the doctor performs the procedure?

No, the ultrasound is clearly out of a non-licensed clinic director's purview, but there are some medical-sounding things (like drawing blood) that you don't need a license to do.

would a clinic really let a non-licensed person draw blood, though? Is that normal medical practice?

I've been thinking, and I've decided I don't buy this business about her never having meant for this to go public. She's spent 8 years working for Planned Parenthood, and it didn't occur to her that the antis would hold her up as their freaking poster child? Yeah, okay. I bet she's never heard of Norma McCorvey, either.

oh, I DEFINITELY think she knew it would go public. She did it because she knew the antis would pay her for it.

I'm not sure she knew how big it would get, though.

I don't either. She's lying through her teeth, at least about that part. You wouldn't go to the head of Coalition for Life to tell your story if you didn't mean for it to public - you'd go home and hit the pavement.

Yeah, I could see it if it were some like facebook-type offhand comment that got out of hand, but obviously this is not the case.
