NOT EATING ANIMALS DOESN'T GIVE YOU AN EATING DISORDER! DX

Ok, need to rant for just a moment...

I was watching the New York news (the only "local" channels we get on our satellite are from New York and California -_-) with my mom the other day, and that story preview thing that they do before the commerical break said something like "Can a vegetarian diet be dangerous? Story next." So I waited, and then ( Read more... )

A vegetarian diet in younger children can actually be bad. Kids need protein for physical growth and brain development, and the best source of that, short of pills, is in fact in the meat group. I don't consider that an EATING dissorder, but it is still important for growing kids to eat their meat and their veggies. I'm not saying everyone should be carnivores. I'm a big believer in the balanced diet, and everything in moderation :/ Being a vegetarian just isn't me.
Also, the people who wrote this article need to remember that corellation does not equal causation.

Heh, well, I didn't eat ANY meat 'til I was 5, and even then I wasn't much into it. (My mom had kept me on a soy-based formula for a while as supplemental nutrition - the dairy-based ones made me horribly ill) I ate meat for about 11 years after that - not heavily; like, once or twice a day, some days none at all - going vegetarian at 16. I'm 5'3", but other than that, I'm healthy (haven't gotten so much as a cold in 2-3 years...though that may be partly due to my shut-in status >.>) and not too mentally impaired :P ( ... )

Well, I THINK I'm 5'3", anyway. I've only measured myself out of curiosity, and it may not have been perfectly exact :/ My mother is 5'5", my father's 5'9", my aunt's shorter than my mother, and my grandmother and brother were/are both over 6 feet tall. It's basically a mixed bag of genes for me :/ I may not have always eaten like I should, partly due to my mother not quite knowing what to do with a vegetarian, but that's my problem, and if it fucked me up, well, I guess I've just gotta deal with that. I don't appear to have any signs of protein deficiency, but I haven't been to a medical professional since my allergic reaction to a vaccine when I was a baby, so I don't know for sure, but I feel fine, so, yay ( ... )
