[ it is about time to try and smile on through the difficulties. there is a christmas day to be celebrated and gifts to be opened and given. so buffy puts on her bravest of brave social faces and is out making her christmas gift rounds.

at home, there will be gifts under the beautifully decorated tree for bones, willow, emony and scottyaround

[ while this is emony's second christmas in luceti, she doesn't quite understand the tradition, but she can appreciate how happy it seems to make everyone and respect that it's a big part of earth's culture. the trill have their own big holidays of choice, but emony doesn't pay much mind to them, because celebrating them without her family and away from her homeworld doesn't quite feel right. to each their own, and she can't deny how lovely the tree looks and how the festive cheer has made luceti feel less like a prison and more like a community, a home. ]

[ she bends down a bit, bracing her hands on her thighs and squints at the present. yup, that is definitely her name. ]

[ her eyes widen a little. ]

You want to leave?

[ faltering. she finally catches up to the realization that emony and bones have their silver lining for this place. buffy frowns. ]

People...people from home. They want to leave. It kinda falls to me to make that happen, I think.

It's what they expect. Or...God, I've gotten them out of bad situations before. Well, that's not fair. We've gotten out of them together. But that's just it. Together. I'm not sure they feel my togetherness.

For what it's worth... or alternatively, not: I don't expect that out of you. And I think it's unfair for them to put that on your shoulders, capable or not.

[ she pauses to pick at the thin needle leaves on the tree for a second, before turning back towards the slayer. ]

You're right, though. People don't feel together. In a mutual situation or not, they still separate. It's just the way of society.

It's not their fault. [ she admits. ] I kinda maybe sorta tend to bring it on myself.
