Call me a hopeless romantic, but I'm a sucker for "Can't Help Falling in Love." A voice like deep, dark chocolate. A tour de force of control and emotion. Almost a lullaby anbd yet the ultimate seduction song.
Yeah, I saw that basset hound gig too...somehow I think that was the Artur Godfrey Show but it was one of those variety type things...that just has got be the most silly and somewhat humiliating things to have your art taken so comically....
But I read where The Beatles all felt that was more or less part of the act...the 50's and early 60's so close to the 40's and it's style of vaudeville... one just assumed that's all part of the "song and dance"
No, you're right...I'm not sure Eddie Vedder would have allowed himself to be so humbled....
George Martin, the Beatles producer said when he first met them that he thought they were talented but not in any way more so though than other act at the time...but he wanted to work with them because they were so energetic, witty and entertaining...
I'm not really an Elvis fan... but my fave song of his is the one about Going to the party in the county jail... not because I like the song, but because when my youngest sister was REALLY little, she never did get the lyrics, and she came and asked once, "Why is he singing about going to the potty in jail?"
Jail House Rock really did "rock". There are so many of the great Elvis songs that picking out one is harder to do than put toothpaste back in the tube. Hope you enjoy the items sent. :0)

I think if there is ONE song that epitomizes all that is "Elvis-voice-styling", you got it!

I once saw a tv show (maybe it was a retrospective of Ed Sullivan shows?) where Elvis sang "Hound Dog" to a basset hound sitting on a stool. :-)

The Beatles had a sense of humour about the whole sudden fame thing, too.
