The King's Last Concert...
By 1977, I really wasn't much of an Elvis fan. The fat Vegas Elvis was a sad caricature. Actually, I wasn't much of an Elvis fan in the sixties. The Beatles and the British Invasion were my musical focus. There was a televised concert Elvis gave in the late sixties, I believe, that saw him all lean and mean and leather. He smoked! With two or three other musicians--one playing drums on a guitar case. There was Rock n' Roll! There was John's and Paul's influence!
No, it wasn't til after he passed away that I really appreciated why Elvis was the King.
What's your favorite Elvis song? If I had to pick one, "Heartbreak Hotel"...
A special thanks goes out to Dan (
papadan), who I know is a BIG Elvis fan!...Thanks, Dan, for the souvenirs from Lubbock, TX!
