Wait a sec... ummm ever think about Educational Technology? I could get you in touch with one of my clients, they hire staff developers as consultants. Basically you would go into schools and teach teachers with their classes how to use technology in project based learning. So for instance, you would go into a school and when learning about say the holocaust, instead of reading from a text book and writing a paper, students would use the internet for research and create a podcast, or a movie or a website or something like that. You would teach them how to do this.
Its not full time work (though, those that live in the NY/NJ area have that possibility as most of the work is there), you would be flown to where the school is, given a hotel and a car to stay at/use. It pays a really good daily rate and it is one of the things I use to pay my own bills. I work for them a bit, save the money and use it to pay my bills in the slower months.
