"What Imus did was bad" AND "but why do rappers talk about women like that?"

Apr 18, 2007 23:53

Why did the wild-haired, deeply-in-need-of-moisturizer, dried up, white, self-declared feminist activist ask me why the rappers say things as bad as Imus did and nobody complains? Not that she was saying that Imus was okay. "ANYthing said about ANY women that's NEGATIVE is NOT OKAY ( Read more... )

See, this is why people adopt a scary facial-expression/body language when in public. If we had scary rows of teeth, we'd be showing them too.

My gf asks me why I generally only smile at/greet PoCs on the street. That's a big part of why.

The idea that you're entitled to have free access to another person's opinions, and then proceed to tell them they're wrong after you asked them. Bo-o-o-gus.

I'm definitely going to remember yeloson's line about old white politicians. I really have to wonder at why people don't ask ME this shit. And then I remember: "Oh Yes.. Me no speakee English. Sorry sorry no can talk now. Must deliver take-out menus."

Fuckin Hop Sing. He's next on my list of "Dragon of Retribution Part 2: retrospectively going back in time to slap a mother f*cker".

:/ Yes. Stoneface seems to be a way of warding off the effrontery of some people. Is your gf from a place where poc are the majority? Is she of color?

Yes. I try to remind myself of that when I realize I'm in a discussion with someone I consider foolish. :/

Yeah. You...speak good English. Heh.

I think there needs to be a manual we can distribute.

Next time someone asks me why it's okay for me to write het porno that explores non-con, but when men do it it's creepy, and why I can use this icon but would be offended if a Xian person tried it, and why no matter wtf a black person might think of rap music that disrespects women in some way, it is IN NO WAY comparable to the history that is immediately attached to an old white guy calling young black women hos, I CAN HIT THEM WITH THE MANUAL.

It only has to be a page long. And that page can be wrapped around a brick maybe?
