BJP in Bangalore part two - Karnataka elections coverage part three

Apr 08, 2008 15:43

"Bangalore South is not as Brahmin-dominated as you think", Rajeev Gowda had told me about two years back. "There are an equal number of Vokkaligas here. So I do have good chances of winning". Unfortunately for Prof. Gowda, Basavanagudi, where he lives, is currently represented by former mayor K Chandrashekar, another Congress Vokkaliga.

Wimps,
I don't know the current status, but Chandrashekhar has definitely been a member of (and strongly supported by) Nivarana. They used to do the Ganesha celebrations at multiple road intersections every year around our house.

i rarely go to hanumanthanagar
but i pass through NR Colony daily, and see his face on some poster or the other every day!

but given that he was a hanumanthanagar corporator i think he muset be from Nivarana

Its very good analysis and essentially raealistic
but I think this time Chandrashekhar may have a tougher time.
This time his opponent is a fresh faced youngster and self made person.
Do you know that both of the major candidates in Basavanuguddi Ravi Subramanya and Chandrashekar are school mates .
LAst time Chandrasheka had faced non-residents and tired old people .

The wind is towards change though

i've never really heard about ravi subramanya. can you tell me more about him?

i just realized that i might be voting in Basavanagudi this time. i live in Kathriguppe which is a part of Srinivasanagar ward which is under Basavanagudi. so i do have a personal interest in this.

I also think for Chandrashekar it will be tough this time. The victory margin last year was some 9K votes, not a comfortable margin. Also, congress stronghold - VV Puram ward is not in Basavanagudi constituency.

oh yeah - VV Puram has gone to Chickpet this time I think (and chickpet isn't part of chickpet - i'll put one more post on that)

if i remember right it's basavanagudi, hanumanthanagar, srinagar and srinivasanagar. more brahmins than vokkaligas in these areas i think - so i guess BJP is better off compared to last time.

can you please put more analysis? i'd like to know more about the party strongholds within regions e tc.

analysis ?? i hv not done any comprehensive analysis.

last time I observed the people voting for a particular party depends on the party to which the local corporator belongs(because of people contact of following leaders)
Hanunmanthanagar - Chandrashekar(Congress)
VV Puram - PR Ramesh(Congress)
NR Colony - Sathya(BJP).

This time it may not relevant much because Chandrashekar has turned unpopular among some circles. The residents of Police Station Road-Basvanagudi are definitely going to vote against him, for the unnecessary landscaping on footpaths. Apart from the good work, there are several instances where he has wasted public money.

Interestingly, Ramalinga Reddy has shifted to the BTM Layout constituency on a Congress ticket and Jayanagar is now open. The front runners are app Rajeev Gowda and BK Chandrashekar (Ironically both IIMB Profs).. Wonder how Jayanagar will play out if one of these guys ends up getting the congress ticket.....

And how Rajeev Gowda's vokkaliga background helps is another interesting thing to watch out for, both in terms of him getting the Congress ticket and if so, then the election itself

Give me a break.Which chandrashekhar are you talking about.K Chandrashekar is a SC.I am very sure about that.I think bovi caste , is what i read in one of the newspaper candidate details. However he has managed to hoodwink the people into believing that he is a brahmin ( among brahmins) and vokkaliga (among the vokkaligas).People really need to know who he is, before they vote, or else they stand the risk of being fooled.

Yes!! thats true Chandreshekar is not a bhramin, but he is trying to fool people by interpreting him as bhramin , just to grab the votes from them and this applies to Vokaligas too.

So...You decide whom to vote and try to know your Candidate rather than to some who is pretending to be some one who he is not.
