I had a long entry typed out about this, but I cut it, loaded my browser, and got sidetracked... then shut down my computer for the night and saved the file, forgetting I had cut the entry out to paste it in the browser. Barf ( Read more... )

I'm sorry to hear about all your lost computers and hardware. :(
We have had serious flooding up here. Homes near the river have been flooded out, and several of the main roads have been closed. I've never seen anything like it since I've lived here.

As for your computer names, I don't know where all of them are from, but I definitely know at least three of them. Koko and YumYum are from The Mikado, and Skimbleshanks is from Cats. Not sure about Dragon. Winkie could refer to the house elf from the Harry Potter series, though I don't know if you're a fan. The only Felix I can think of is Felix the Cat of yesteryear fame, and I feel like I should know from whence comes Petronius, but I know not.

So...yeah. Other than that, just, you know...figuring out life and recovering from breaking an engagement and etc. :P
I hope everything else is going alright for you.

You're close with the Mikado, but not quite. The namesakes of my pair were named for the Mikado characters. The first three should set the pattern for you. Dragon: It's a Secret. Winkie: No. A house elf is not a cat, and we hates the series, hates it hates it. Yes, that Felix the Cat, whose cartoons were only good the first time through. Petronius: If you've noticed the pattern, it might help... depends on your personal reading list.

You recognized Skimbleshanks but not Leo or Aslan?

Everything is going pretty well. I have a roof over my head and food on the table. Just wanting clients and my future wife.

Well, I know Leo is a lion, but I'm not sure of a literary reference for it. And of course I know Aslan, but it didn't seem to be a name you actually chose for your computer; thus I didn't know if I should cite its origin. If you insist, however, it if of course from The Chronicles of Narnia. :)

A google search leading to wiki found me this:
Robert A. Heinlein's novel The Door into Summer, in which the protagonist's cat is named "Petronius the Arbiter", giving me a guess for your Petronius origin. :)
Another google search turns up a Scottish poem about a cat named Wee Willie Winkie, so maybe that's where that one comes from.

Aha! And another google search determines that Pixel is from another novel by Robert Heinlein, The Cat Who Walked Through WallsClearly, you are a good person because you seem to like cats. ;) Also, as you seem to have an affinity for sci-fi (fantasy too?) involving cats, have you ever read the series The Ghatti's Tale? I read it in middle school (and ( ... )

The fictional/literary reference for Leo is the zodiac, which I suppose some might consider neither fictional (no real story attached to the character) nor literary, but it is the name of a character.

Petronius is, in fact, from The Doore Into Summer. That is correct. And you are correct that Pixel is from The Cat Who Walks Through Walls... and speaking of cats who... that's a clue to the source whence comest Koko and YumYum.

Winkie is not from a Scottish poem but a more recent movie. Try searching on IMDb. :) Might help to find Dragon, too.
My new 'Dragon' is no longer a PC but a network appliance. Such is life.
