I liked it personally. =) I did wish for a bit more, thought it would have been longer but I did like that she changed formats. It didn't start out with Harry being bored at the Dursley's. It didn't have a real 'villian of the month' so it broke up the 'formula' which I thought was brave of her to do. I didn't suspect Dumbledor until halfway thru the book. I never would have thought he'd be aced. =P But the burnt hand did kinda give it a way.
I had the impression it was the other way around. That is, Snape gets killed by Dumbledore, who'd then be offed by Draco, finally turning the wuss-boy into a viable threat. But nooo...
An iteresting theory came up by Chapter 2. Snape must really have been quite the pimping badass during his Death Eater days.
...Snape, a pimping badass. That sounds so WRONG, it has to be right. :)
I used to like Ginny, right before she became the canon slut. Which is mostly why I graviated to Luna in book 5 since I saw her character as what Ginny should've turned out to be (minus the Osaka syndrome, but hey...).
Not to mention the siscon-like relationship of Harry/Ginny made my hairs stand on end (and not in a pleasant way).
the rec.arts.sf.written folks have done a really good job of tearing lots of it apart. They point out that Rowling went out of her way to show polyjuice is around, that there was time for a non-verbal spell before Snape cursed Dumbledore, and that the killing curse in previous books never resulted in a body being knocked backward. (Dumbledore's portrait in the headmaster's office is supposedly asleep when they meet there, so Rowling carefully keeps it ambiguous). Then, also, at the funeral, she plays up the phoenix symbology.
I personally think he's dead, but Rowling does a good job of leaving ambiguity in the situation, if the rasfw discussion is accurate.
"If you strike me down, you only make me more powerful." Dumbledore knew he was going to die, one way or another, and took steps to make sure that this would not work in Voldemort's favor.

I'm hoping this isn't true. The Harry/Ginny in HBP rubbed me the wrong way a lot.

And there was the sense that it was a nasty thing *inside* Harry that wanted Ginny, rather than he himself.
