I think I mentioned in my last post that I was put in charge of assembling this year's United Way basket for the company raffle. The theme is "Winter Reading." Tonight, I took the cash donations to Target and shopped for things to stock the basket ( Read more... )

Nine months of winter and three months of highway construction. Or to put it another way, our temperature variation is from -50 F to 100 F during most years.

I wanted to put in a manga, but not the usual "big eyes" stuff (that turns a lot of people off, I fear), and the first volume is just out, and yeah, it's good, so there it goes.

I think your dept should win hands down! Pearl Buck book is interesting choice.She was one of my favorite authors some years ago.

Oh, there's going to be some fantastic baskets from the departments that can afford to spend the big bucks. (At least I hope there are. I might actually win one once!)

For reasons unknown, The Good Earth got reprinted in a special edition this year. Pearl S. Buck and I share a birthday, so I'm familiar with her work.
