Homesick

We are enjoying a lively discussion of time travel paradox over on craighnaduhn. I always forget how homesick for Scotland reading Diana Gabaldon makes me (and how much I love Lord John Grey, but that's beside the point). And they're not even *in* Scotland in the book I'm reading. It was actually her description of Oxford in the rain that made me long for ( Read more... )

*Scotland love* It's gorgeous here today, that lovely end of summer coolness despite the sun being so bright you'd think it would be blazing hot.

Best archaeology (field work that is) postgrad program I know, though, is York, which you're probably well aware of. And they do the dig up in Tarbat. You may want to consider these short courses as well.

See, the problem with that is that I am keeping in mind that new measure put forward by the Scottish parliament whereby I would get to stay in Scotland two additional years after graduating. York would be lovely, too, though. Looks like the only places in Scotland with archaeo courses are Glasgow and Edinburgh. *sigh* I think I would have to take some sort of geophysical sciencey course to make it worth my while.

Me too. It's a shame how we all went to Uni before we had good priorities.

I let myself get distracted and wasted my time on the stupidest stuff, none of which matters anymore. I called St Andrews home for four years; I could have used my time there much, much better.

Is there no way you can get funding for postgrad courses?

There is, but I don't fancy going into debt right now.

Yay for Scotland!

It's been beautiful today between boughts of rain and I've been aware of how much I love this place - even though sometimes I get homesick for other places and complain about things here. Glasgow's a brilliant city to live in. Specially the West End near the University. Not quite as picturesque as St Andrew's, but the Victorian mansions looking over Kelvingrove Park and the University aren't bad.

I've not read Diana Gabaldon, but you're tempting me.

Do yourself a favour and pick up a copy of "Cross Stitch". There are currently six in the series, plus one spinoff mystery novel and a companion volume. Lovely, fat books rich with tasty historical details.

I spent a lot of time in Glasgow during my first and second years at Uni, since I was dating a Glaswegian at the time. His family lived in Bearsden.
