Huh. I'm the opposite. I thought the breakdown/illness was very well drawn, so I voted her as one of the realistic characters for gen 2. If she'd been up there for the gen 1 poll I would have voted her as most stereotyped - the silent, troubled, burning things HBIC Effy was more of a cliche imo, as much as I adored her.
i almost didn't vote for that one because i didn't know who to put, lol. IMO they did a good job with SOME aspects of it, but there were other parts where i was just left with nothing but a blank stare. i think specifically the giant death collage and maniacal laughter on the bed. something about that was a little over the top for me. i dunno. overall though that entire storyline with effy like, physically hurt me to watch. i just generally felt nauseated after it all, and not in a way like i hated it - quite the opposite. i pretty much felt like kaya did a great job with the material.
I think everything about the way they did her illness in gen 2 was the biggest cliche/stereotype of all. I can't really find some good aspects from it. The giant death montage, the voices telling her they were after her, the evil laugher, the suicide attempt, all of this seen through someone else's eyes who went on the internet to find out what she had, which apparently wasn't even what she had, but they never bothered to explain. Not to mention how it feels like one day she woke up and all of that happened, the voices, the montage, the suicide. and then the evil doctor, who wants her, so he erases her bad memories and kills her boyfriend, but then just lets her go.
It was the only time I was disappointed with the way Skins handled a serious issue.
This was a fantastic idea for a poll, I'm such a little geek when it comes to discussions like this. I was quite shocked by who I picked too, definitely not who I expected to
( ... )
I think that Jal is one of the most believeable characters and I can relate to that. I definitely take the fun out of a lot of things and I'm rather boring like her, and I can understand the issues she went through. And I'm not sure I like how I can relate to Effy, but meh. And Freds, just because he seemed so normal (boring) with how he dealt with Effy and everything else. And all the drama with loving the same girl as your best mate--really relateable.
