Since I posted deleted scenes and extras from Ambition In The Blood here, I decided to post a project I've been working on for a long time that coincides with that particular episode. You're welcome. There wasn't much in the script for the confession, so I suspect it was the work of the prop department. To me the psychoanalysis works but the confession aside from the legal jargon doesn't feel like Jack. A man who's worst word in four years even when gun shot is one damn, is doesn't fit that he'd write that way. At least in my opinion :)

As a Buffy fan well-used to dealing with continuity and characterization bobbles, I rationalize that confession as a deliberate attempt by Jack to "skew" (pardon the pun) his profile and lead the VCTF and the rest of law enforcement astray in their assessment of him. He made a concerted effort NOT to be himself in his writing.

I think that's a real possibility. Perhaps he even intended it to mock general law enforcement's expectations of him. Most serial killers have IQ's in th 110-120 range, Jack gives the impression of the close to 200 range - the brilliance of Lecter without the pretension is how I think of him ( ... )
