Since I posted deleted scenes and extras from Ambition In The Blood
here, I decided to post a project I've been working on for a long time that coincides with that particular episode. During the episode, Jack types two documents which cover the events in Venom, a psychological profile of Samantha and later a confession to exonerate her. A combination of curiousity and questionable sanity, I had to know exactly what they said.
I have worked for a couple weeks and spent more hours than I'm willing to admit to, freezing and zooming on my DVDs a frame at a time working with a high power magnifying glass and also taking digital captures and enhancing missing words to try and find the answers. Somewhere in between going cross-eyed and dizzy and contorting my neck at an angle to read parts of it sideways, I managed to write down everything as accurately as possible. Any parts that are in doubt, I've noted.
This is the first page of Jack's psychological profile and I've checked thoroughly to ensure accuracy:
Jack's Profile Of Samantha
Samantha Waters
Psychological Profile
Observations of Samantha Waters behavior has led me to
this analysis:
1. On a behavioral level through expressive acts
and interpersonal conduct SHE IS VIOLENT.
2. On an intrapsychic level, the method for defending
herself against internal conflict and turmoil is
through fantasizing. SHE LIVES IN A FANTASY WORLD.
3. On a biophysical level, the structual attributes of
mood and temperment are LOSS OF CONTROL.
Dr. Waters works in an environment which claims to battle
dangerous and violent criminals. She puts herself in situations
where she can act in a violent manner.
SHE LOSES CONTROL AT WORK
There is a second page on the profile which reiterates the capitalized and underlined points with mention of Sam losing control at Robin's lair and something ambiguous about her needing a man (possibly some jibe about Tom or Coop to define her), but I couldn't make that page out clearly enough to transcribe accurately.
I think that his assessment is interesting and that there's lots of interesting facets for Skewers there.
Jack's confession is also two pages long and in opposition of the first, the first page I can only get a partial view of and the second I have a very thorough and accurate transcription. So, in the interest of his whole confession making sense, I've listed the words I could make out and what I think they mean. This is subjective since out of over 400 words, I only could make out 26, but the order they're in and considering Venom, I think I have an idea of what their intentions are.
searching... Robin... yours truly... interrogated... coroner... customs list... planned...
Jack O Trades... online... found... beat out of... Robin... confessed...
Bitch... funnel... kicked... to rescue... injected... my...Sam...
In my estimation, Jack is recounting his search for Robin. During the episode, Jack beat up a couple people including a Coroner who examined Robin's parents, his version of "interrogation" so he's recounting that along with his finding the customs list and builting the website. Jack finally found Robin and roughed her up to find out what her intentions were. Jack found out she intended to poinson Sam with a funnel web spider, so he went off to rescure her. The final two words in my list were in one sentence "my (unknown word) Sam"
My interpretation fits when coupled with the near complete transcription of the second page but as I said, it's based on the order of slightly less than 6.5% of the words on the page and could be wrong. I freely admit this is conjecture and speculation, but I had to at least try and discern meaning.
Page 2 of Jack's Confession:
I transported Sam to Robin's Lair -- _____ _____
willingly I might add.
When I arrived, Robin was in a snit, pissed off at me
and whining, since I kidnapped Sam as she wished to have
her way with her. Ah the 90's. I kicked the crap out
of Robin to silence her, but the white trash bitch seemed to
like it.
Then I proceeded with my heinous deeds. I removed Sam's gun
and handcuffs from her purse, cuffed Darla Turner and
dumped her unconcious by the elevator.
Before Sam's paralysis wore off, I enjoyed a poignant
FOCUSED photo session of my own. These transmissions via
modem to the VCTF hoping to perplex that cute computer jock
wannabehacker George.
When Sam's paralysis wore off, but before her eyesight
returned, I led her around the lair in a little game of Blind
Sam's Bluff. The spunky extrasensory Sam picked up a well
positioned lead pipe and attempted to take my head off. Note
to myself for future: learn to throw your voice- This
could be construed as attempted murder - let the court decide.
As Sam swung the pipe, I deftly absorbed the hit with my
body padding (not an attractive look, but useful), and I pushed
Darla Turner whom I had carefully pre-positioned into the
open elevator shaft. She died instantly in case you
were wondering about any additional civil charges
that could be levied concerning pain and suffering.
I Jack O Trades then took my leave to greener pastures.
Therefore, it is with a heavy heart my fellow Americans,
that I hereby accept responsibility for Darla Turner's
murder and confess my direct involvement in the events
leading up to and causing her demise. I did it with
forethought, planning, and no remorse.
Mea Culpa Mea Culpa Mea Culpa
Jack
In all of his confession, I only have questions about a one word which I think I have correctly but was the most difficult to clear up sufficiently and two that are represented by blanks that I cannot figure out and you'll have to let your imagination fill them in. FOCUSED which was in all caps in the confession and I've placed in all caps here, is the word I'm in the most doubt of.
I think the confession's interesting. In some ways very Jack, in others, perhaps a bit off. The part about Robin wanting Sam for herself, I am pretty sure is in reference to Robin trying to kill her as opposed to the intimate sense of the word. Some of the language seems a bit odd for Jack - I believe the only swearing Jack did in the whole of the series was in Doppelganger when he said to Angel, "Damn, you're running out of gas." On the other hand I could see where Jack might differentiate between what's acceptable conduct in the written vs the verbal word.
I thought the wanna be computer jock bit was funny, I can envision Jack viewing George as almost a pesky little brother who's trying to compete against him. Love Jack's need to give complimentary adjectives to Samantha even in a murder confesseion. Also, based on some of the language, I get the impression that Jack may have dabbled in the law at one time - the comments about"additional civil charges that could be levied concerning pain and suffering" and "let the court decide" - have a legal ring to them. Also the mention of "forethought, planning, and no remorse" are also in the legal jargon vein.
I'd love to know what people think and hope that my insanity project is useful in story writing and episode discussion :)
