My battle buddies and I found we may be able to pirate the Marine's wireless signal from their neighboring barracks, but we need to scrounge some parts before a serious attempt can be made. It's come down to somewhat less than a week until I leave for Fort Bliss. So far, somewhat a repeat of when I went to basic, with lots of "Bye, see ya in a year or two" to acquaintances. Intermittent periods of yard labor under the sweltering sun have punctuated my otherwise leisurely summer thus far. Fort Lawton funds have seemingly evacuated my bank account in a frenzied haste, leaving me to survive by exchanging lawn-altering services for hard cash monies. It's not too bad. Kudos to my parents for the purchase of electronic gifts for me, in preparation for deployment. I guess the way it works over there is that the boredom is the real killer, besides the killing itself. Last week's training at Fort Lawton went well. I'm sorry to hear the facility will be closed down due to Base Realignment and Closure (BRAC 2005) in a few years. Yes, it's just the 70th HQ, and it can all go to Fort Lewis pretty smoothly, but it's a nice facility and I'd rather return there when I cycle back than end up in some corner of North Fort ( Read more... )

While viewing the recent stormy weather, I commented to my father that all the really beautiful parts of nature also happen to be destructive.
