ah!! I LOVED Eye of the World - it takes a bit to get into, but once you do you won't want to put it down. I didn't at least. It can get a bit detailed at times - the other books moreso than the first one, which is why I love the first one the best. I just started the series this year, and have only progressed to book six, but I'm a bit nervous about finishing the series because the author passed away before he could write the last book.... There's a lot of speculation around what will happen, but I hope there's just some sort of closure with the 11th book.

Annnnyway - had to comment because I LOVE that novel and have been trying to get my friends to read it for months. I hope you like it!

This book (or series, depending on how much I like the first) has been on my mental "to be read" list for quite awhile, because I feature it on the "Fantasy Fiction for Adults" page of my site, and I'm slowly working my way through everything I feature that I haven't read yet. However, it was your mention here some time ago - or possibly in an entry in your journal - that moved it to the upper reaches of my list. I haven't gotten to the "can't put it down" stage yet, but it is definitely much easier reading now. The Prologue was fine, but the first paragraph of the first chapter really did my head in. Glad to be finally past it (I told myself "Just ignore it and keep reading" lol) and am looking forward to getting deeper into the story. I thought I'd read somewhere - possibly in an article when he died recently - that Robert Jordan had made arrangements for the final book to be written by ... uh, someone. (Can I be making that up? I don't think so, but it's possible that was just a thought I had: "He should have arranged to have ( ... )

I wholeheartedly recommend the first book to anyone who even has an inkling towards the fantasy genre. The rest are great, but aren't as spell-binding I found. They can get VERY VERY VERY detail oriented and a bit convoluted. They are still very well written, but none of them compare to the brilliance of Eye of the World. (I actually admit that I primarily am reading the rest of the series because of this one stunning subplot between two characters.) I think once they start running from things in the first book (I forget how long it takes to get to that point) you can't put it down ( ... )

Well, even after reading for about 45 minutes last night, I'm still not far into it, but I do at least know who Lan/Nanieve are, so I'm intrigued. I also had this thought while reading last night: "Nooooo! Don't take those coins from the pretty lady, you silly boys!" But then I have a feeling the plot wouldn't progress if that hadn't happened. I wish I could send you my copies of the second and third books in The Farseer trilogy; I know you don't live far and I know you'd take care of them. Actually, you know what? I have to go to the post office this week. If you'll send your address to skellorg at gmail I'll do that (unless you really want to wait to get your own copies.) I thought I had your address, but the one I have for you is in Colorado.

Oh, and congrats on your second DD. Everything I love about fractals is in that piece. Just lovely. Unfortunately, though, I'm giving up dA indefinitely. Yesterday when I finally finished my coding (!!!) I went for a look, and in two different visits had a browser highjacker take over Firefox (which I just updated day before yesterday) when viewing the full-sized deviation - your piece and one of Natalie's photos. My system's heavily guarded against stuff like that, and nothing was found on adware, malware, spyware or virus scans, nor a browse of the Firefox site looking for issues with the latest version. I tried dA again this morning and the same thing happened. After running all my tests again (and nothing found) I poked around the dA forums and News to see if anything had been said about it, but didn't find anything. I can't be the only person that's happening to, and even though there doesn't seem to be any long lasting effect or damage, it's enough to keep me away even longer than I've already been ( ... )
